So first you say there's no enforcement and it's all a publicity stunt...

[B]One week ago there was an obese Turkish lady on the bus, no mask and talking really loud on her phone. Her talking loud and no mask combination was really grinding me, I was tempted to politely ask her to shut it but chickened out.

Five minutes later the bus driver had enough, he stopped the bus and told her to shut up and put the mask on, he told her that it is a public bus and not her living room. She told him it was an important phone call. Turns out the driver was Turkish too, and she was chatting rubbish on the phone
They had back and forth in Turkish for a minute, and then she put the phone down and put her mask on. When she finally got off she was mumbling and grumbling.

When my turn came to get off, I thanked the Turkish bus driver for his great service and for being an excellent member of the society. He was very thankful for my backing and it made his day. Actually it made my day too
...then there's a story about clear enforcement? Mmkay.

It may not be 100% consistently enforced, but it's still enforced, so can hardly be described as a publicity stunt especially when the vast majjority of people do abide by the mask rules and therefore do reduce chance of transmission and infection.

Anyway, while I realise there was no intent to say anything sensible in your post, I couldn't help pointing out the usual logical inconsistencies. )

Hey Chuff that was one enforcement that I saw since Covid started so an exception. Primary argument with the driver was about the loud phone call, mask was secondary. Are you this anal with everything in life?

In my area mask rule is openly flouted daily. Mask system is only as strong as its weakest link. A superspreader from my area could create many more COVID patients in your upscale, rule abiding area. So I stand by my assertion that a rule without any punishment or real world enforcement is a joke.

I have not forgotten that the same BAG was telling us for months that masks don't work

Almost 3000 out of 20.000 hospitalizations in Arizona never occurred.

Mistakes happen And this isn't the first, there have been many, many "errors" like these

I wonder how many other medical providers have been reporting admissions that never actually happened?

...OK, the serious answer - the article is mostly wrong. BUT surfaces are very much the lesser means of transmission - most reputable research suggests perhaps 10% - 20% by contact, 80% - 90% air borne droplets or aerosols.

So stressing the importance of masks (and of course distancing) above everything else.

So yeah, health data like this can be fraught with error. Most often coding errors, of which this appears to be one. Having worked with a lot of this data, this is probably a common error - mistaking a visit for an admission. You’d have to see the entry form, of course. At least they caught it.

What are you after? People wearing masks or people being punished?

Every time I drive out from Aargau and go to a shop I'm reminded of the mask. In one gas station I did not understand a single word the clerk said. Fortunately people talk with their hands too and he meant put the damned mask before entering here

How about both? Some people clearly don't respond to common sense. If my safety did not depend on them, I would not care. I don't want someone's toxic dose on my body. Full enforcement of mask wearing in all public areas, specifically public transport. Non-wearers should be made to feel the wrath of the law, huge fines! No pussyfooting! It's people's health at stake apparently. For the mask system to be most efficient, people need to wear masks and wear them correctly!

Bring back bus conductors (undercover COVID conductors). If a country can spend 6 Billion on useless jet fighters, I am sure they can afford to enforce the rule better and pay some wages. I nominate Chuff as the head bus conductor, we need anal people like him to enforce the mask rule

I have been reminded to wear one frequently. Thus, my perception is that enforcement by authorities, direct instructions from staff, and social pressure from concerned citizens is quite strong. Apparently that's not enough, so write a letter to SBB/cantonal public transport/PostAuto explaining your concerns.

You obviously live in a well cultured area I wish I was making this stuff up as it makes my blood boil. No visible social pressure here any more. Everyone minds their own business out of fear. No one wants to be shouted back at or worse.

Anyway the driver is alone and busy driving a long tram/trolley bus.

A Dr told me it's better to use your hands as they are easy to clean, germs can stay on clothes etc & spread by touching other objects.
I have a friend who worked with ebola, he says cleaning your hands is the most important thing to prevent spread, taking off a mask & putting it in your pocket is a joke.

Your friend doesn't seem to understand how differently Ebola spreads compared to Sars-CoV2.

Belgium announced a loosening of coronavirus restrictions on Wednesday, despite the country's rising infection rate.

Face masks will only be mandatory in crowded places from October 1, the country's prime minister Sophie Wilmes said on Wednesday. Currently, the masks are required everywhere at all times.

The virus is not going away, but life must restart eventually."

Things are tightening up again in Belgium, especially in Brussels where the infection rate is high.
