A Dr told me it's better to use your hands as they are easy to clean, germs can stay on clothes etc & spread by touching other objects.
I have a friend who worked with ebola, he says cleaning your hands is the most important thing to prevent spread, taking off a mask & putting it in your pocket is a joke.
I agree. But someone like me, wearing a mask through 12hr day, that would mean running through at least 5-6 per day, really, since you cannot go through only 2 and expect them to leave them on continuously, only with a lunch break. People get really warm and sweaty under the masks, etc. etc.

We have more teachers sick now in CZ than aby other job, except doctors and nurses. On the other hand a very small exposure daily, diluted further by the mask, might immunize, I read that back home.

Found the sources - but only people who were quoted: Dr. Giovani de Simonne (Naples Uni, he is amazing, never seen anyone so active in pubs in such a short time - all covid related looks like, he knows that timing matters) and then also Dr. Monica Gandhi & Dr. George Rutheford (New England Journal of Medicine). Yay - found the published text https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp2026913

BAG/OFSP data: https://www.bag.admin.ch/bag/en/home...rnational.html

Total laboratory confirmed cases since start of pandemic: 57,709.

Total tests : 1,439,599. CH population: ~8.5 million

So, lab confirmed cases/population = ~0.68%

But, it's quite probable that some people got sick but never tested since the mild symptoms never justified a test. There are some estimations about this. Anyone else knows where this data is?

Mid June Zürich was only 1.2% to 1.5% (antibody testing). Geneva was then over 10%. Guess by now it will have doubled in ZH but still pretty low...

So which is the way to go, according to your uhm friend, teach people how to properly use, manipulate and dispose the masks or ditch them altogether?

Asking for a uhm, friend.

What are you after? People wearing masks or people being punished?

Every time I drive out from Aargau and go to a shop I'm reminded of the mask. In one gas station I did not understand a single word the clerk said. Fortunately people talk with their hands too and he meant put the damned mask before entering here
Aargau is truely the "safe space" for the mask avoider.

I was in Migros this morning in Frick and I didn't see one other mask wearer at all (and I was only wearing a crappy cloth one).

Today up to 1077 confirmed cases
I guess the upside (??) is that hospitalizations and deaths remain fairly low despite an increase in overall cases. Per https://www.corona-data.ch/: 25,982 cases since 1st June, with only 130 deaths in that time. That's an average of 1 per day

Oh, like Trump did on the steps of the White House after he returned from hospital...

Nothing new here ::

Quote:
One of the nation’s most prominent epidemiologists with a history of serving under multiple administrations, both Democratic and Republican, reportedly sent an emotional letter to the current director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Robert Redfield, advising him to “face the truth” regarding the U.S. government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The failure of the White House to put the CDC in charge has resulted in the violation of every lesson learned in the last 75 years that made CDC the gold standard for public health in the world,” he wrote. “Despite the White House spin attempts, this will go down as a colossal failure of the public health system of this country.”

Some of the characteristics of the U.S.’s approach to containing the virus include a lack of a robust federal plan to contain the virus, no global cooperation, and the rejection of scientific advice –– all failings of the Trump administration, Foege asserts.

Thousands of scientists and health experts have joined a global movement warning of "grave concerns" about Covid-19 lockdown policies.

Nearly 6,000 experts, including dozens from the UK, say the approach is having a devastating impact on physical and mental health as well as society.

They are calling for protection to be focused on the vulnerable, while healthy people get on with their lives.

Stopped reading at "TV doctors".

But seriously, aren't we long past that and any new measures will be much less extreme and/or more targeted?

You'd like to think so.
Maybe it's been touched upon already, but some mayors of some major northern UK cities have been asking UK Gov for the power to introduce local measures as:
1) lockdowns are not working
2) the economy is dying
and be exempt from Whitehall's control over this issue.

Fair enough. My comment comes from a Swiss perspective where I cannot see any risk of another "lockdown" really.

Me neither. You've got to hand it to the Swiss and their attitude of pragmatism and selber schuld.

One of my friends commented on it after seeing a cherry picker moving around Geneva train station, one guy, in the cage, up and down the platform, with no cones, no security guard etc.
In the UK that would have been a major HSE operation.

More over, he argues against measures that aren't in place anymore. And as someone else pointed out, there are very slim chances to be adopted one more time, at least not so drastically as with the first wave..and CH was not one of those places anyway.
