This is just laughable.

Could you provide an English translation for those who are not German speakers as stated in EF rules please?

I can understand it despite living in the French speaking part of Switzerland but not everyone on here understands German.

What specifically?
Feels to me that the cantons (specifically the ones in Central and Eastern Switzerland) have first complained about Bern having too much power, then bragged how well they can handle Covid, then sat there in shock and awe lately not being able to do something themselves (alone or coordinated) and now they throw the issue back to Bern.

Cantons want the federal government to have uniform rules for mask compulsory

The cantonal health directors' conference published a media release during the ongoing press conference. The federal patchwork of masks is to be removed. The GDK calls on the federal government to create and enforce uniform rules in this and other areas.

The cantons specifically demand a general mask requirement in publicly accessible indoor spaces, the restriction of private and public gatherings and a recommendation to work from home wherever possible. Maximum numbers have to ensure that normal family and friend life continues to be possible, the message says.

We are all on our own, let's hope for the best and may Odin have mercy on us. We will fight this Covid with masks and social distancing, if we die then we will surely meet again in Valhalla

This in a way makes sense. BL and BS are from a transportation point of view, one canton. Shopping in BL is without mask, 10m down the road in BS and one has to wear a mask. Unless this is federally stipulated, it will be useless. The most annoying thing is to see older people coming over on a Saturday morning in the local Coop without masks and then taking the tram back to BS.

On a positive note, the vast majority of people on the tram every morning and every evening when I go back home are wearing masks and there was a case this week when a bunch of teens entered without masks and the tram driver refused to close the door until they put the masks on and he announced on the radio that they have to wear them. They had to leave as they didn't even have masks with them.

Hospitalisations increasing rapidly already. The big increase from the recently wave of cases you won't see for another couple of weeks.

Deaths will lag by another couple of weeks after that.

At the forecast (without action) case level of 12,000 per day in a couple of weeks the health system woud be completely overwhelmed.

Oh and my canton's (SG) pathetic reaction - they've banned dancing.

What in the holy effing f*** is going on? I haven't checked the number of cases in CH for a few days, and I see this today:

Are we seriously about to see a spike in infection three, four or five times higher than in our first wave?

Unless our incompetant politicians get their thumbs out of their nether regions it's going to be about 8 times larger pretty quickly.

You need to start reading the Swiss news!

Re: Coronavirus

The Schwyzer locals are still angry at their government. More and more people are wearing masks in the shops despite it being voluntary. Most people agree that the Bund (federal government) need to enforce a national Maskenpflicht (compulsory masks) since the local government refuses stubbornly to do so themselves. Hospital Schwyz's appeal made a huge impact on everyone who saw it.

I wonder what sort of useless nonsense we will hear from them...

“The situation is very worrying”

“We leave it in the hands of the canton who have already acted to contain...”

“We must avoid another lockdown”

“Download the app that may or may not work”

“It is about self-responsibility of the population”
Surprisingly for the BAG I think you only score 1. For many canton pressers you would have had a 3 or 4 (rewording your 2nd point accordingly).

komsomolez gets a special bonus point I think.

Actually I do, but I've been skipping the news these last 2 or 3 days only, as I've been in day-long online sessions in a congress. Now that it's over I picked them up again. From NZZ I went straight to the WorldOdometers site.

We're just at the beginning.

--------

Curiously, has anyone seen what the sudden, dramatic increase in new cases is being attributed to? I know it seems to be happening in much of Europe right now -- not just Switzerland. Do you think it's due to the cold weather settling in? I remember seeing that COVID is also considered an aerosol / airborne virus now (not just droplets), and I've read before that airborne viruses stick around in cold air longer and that that's one reason why people tend to catch viruses more in the colder weather.

I'm also worried about cases rising even more due to people traveling while their kids are on school break. We normally take our son to Europa Park this time of year for his birthday, but this year we're staying home.
