Alas, it unfortunately isn't likely to pass.

Pity.

Things were almost like the old days last week due to the corona paranoia.

Tom
You do realise people of every generation say that - when they get to a certain age?

All your statement is really saying is that you're an old codger.

One case confirmed in Neuchâtel. People are so stupid. Come back from affected locations where they were on holiday- no symptoms, but possible carriers- and turn up and wait in A&E/emergency room - risking infection for a whole hospital. Incredibly irresponsible idiots! A friend is in hospital there right now, in a fragile state, and another due for an operation next week- so angry.

Why? It's not like there's any treatment for the new virus that's anything more than generic paracetamol or similar, and anti-bacterial hand gel is not something that big pharma companies are involved with.
Also, the pharmas are likely to lose many of their best customers; those with pre-conditions.

Re: Coronavirus

Everybody landing at Malta Airport was temperature screened this morning, no such precautions landing in the UK on Thursday.
No direct flights to Geneva so I will have a short layover at Rome later in the week. I have been wearing a mask whilst in the Airport & plane.

I flew Geneva to Birmingham on Thursday & I had a ticket to return to Geneva today, however I flew Luton to Malta instead, both planes fairly full.

I normally don't mind people winning the darwin awards / thinking with their butts, but sometimes they're causing the whole ship to sink Fingers crossed to your friends.

I've seen one person wearing a mask today.

A girl that was with her mother. She sat down on the seat opposite to me, looked around, said something like "this mask is stupid" to her mother and took it off.

The bright side of the soap and hand sanitizer shortages? This means everyone is being vigilant with hand washing which is a net benefit to all. I wonder if after all this there's any sort of drop in other infectious diseases.

Parents in France are pointing out that a hell of a lot of schools don't have soap in their bathrooms, nor is there often toilet paper or towels apparently.

I'm hearing from a contact from Japan that they've introduced a "if you have a fever, you have to wait 4 days" rule before being allowed to go to a hospital, which seems to keep the hypochondriacs and those who recover easily out. Maybe the Swiss government would like to apply such a rule?

Also, if you have been to a country infected in the last week or two, please self quarantine you fool, don't do the "I'm living normally and going to carnaval etc". This isn't a drill, nor a panic. It's better for everyone to start socializing a lot less for the next few weeks, no matter your boredom or your untouchable daily schedule.

hello ef!

im due to fly to nyc next week for a trip already paid for and non refundable. tbh the money isnt the issue it's more like i really want to go and so at this moment in time i'm definitely going. i just thought i'd ask what people on here would do. would you go? also, do you think it's irresponsible somehow? this time next week nyc will have a hundred cases at least. in fact ive got a sizeable bet with my gf travel companion that it will be over 150 but thats a bit gruesome and i probably shouldnt have told you.

Wasn’t he hospitalalised in canton Bern where he presented himself and was diagnosed? Or did they transfer him to Neuchâtel ?
It is not very clear from the announcement but I understood it to mean he was in hospital in Bern.

Edit: He is hospitalised in canton Bern in the Interlaken area, six people who have been in close contact with him are in quarantine in La Chaux-de-Fonds.

Have you recently been to the most affected areas ? (China, South-Korea, Iran and Italy)

If you have, then you probably shouldn't travel. But as long as there are no official restrictions (which I doubt btw), it's all up to your own conscience. Each country has its own recommendations in regards with travelling to and from various areas these days, so you better check out what their health authorities have to say. In (most) Europe for instance, people are asked to stay 14 days at home in case they travelled to an affected area, even if they don't show any symptoms. I know some people consider these measures exaggerated, but they are legally binding in some places.

You can check here the chart of the virus

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-51235105

Theoretically you have a very, very tiny risk of contacting the virus yourself, so as long as you're willing to take it, do as you please....I guess?
As a side note some companies have suspended business travels, so.

I am sorry, can you please be more specific about the media hype and the nonsense posted here? Unless you consider the WHO's recommendations nonsensical?
Yes, there has been some nonsense posted, that has (luckily) been deleted, but the rest of the thread is pretty OK right now.
