That's exactly what I logged in to wonder aloud - was following along on Corona English's twitter, and he tweeted this:

"English Coronavirus updates for Switzerland @CoronaEnglish·26m

Journalist asks Berset why the late deadline for eventual new national measures is Wednesday.
Berset: «There is a law that requires us to await the cantons to prepare and act». #CoronaInfoCH"

Does anyone know anything about this law? The whole press conference sounded like they were preparing us for a lockdown announcement at any moment.

Thanks,
Katerina
I'm reading into it that the numbnuts have actually made a decision and have to share it out to the Kantons first before implementing it.

Prediction: panic bog-roll purchases will increase from 28th until lockdown from 2-16 Movember

https://voxeu.org/article/face-mask-...ovid-19-canada

There was another, similar thing I read, but don't remember the title.

Actually, there is a reference to similar studies in the article:

"Our results for Canada are consistent with two other recent observational studies on the effects of mask mandates. Chernozhukov et al. (2020) use differences in the timing of mask mandates for employees in public-facing businesses across US states and find that these mandates are associated with a reduction of 9–10 percentage points in the weekly growth rate of COVID-19 cases. Our estimates are larger, partly because we analyse universal mandatory mask wearing. Similarly, Mitze et al. (2020) study the city of Jena and regions in Germany that adopted mask mandates before the rest of the country and estimate that requiring the public to wear face masks reduced the daily growth rate of COVID-19 cases by about 40%."
Thank you, an interesting read.
Actually, it does not state "masks reduce infections maybe by 20-30%".
It states "mask mandates are associated with a 25%–31% weekly reduction in new cases relative to the no-mandate trend" but the mask-wearing compliance is not 100%.
So masks are likely better at stopping infections than 25%–31% but without knowing the compliance level we cannot estimate how much better.

10 least-white states in USA (2010): death rate
Mississippi (republican), 1083
Florida (republican), 755
Arizona (republican), 804
Georgia (republican), 726
Maryland (democratic), 671
Nevada (democratic), 562
Texas (republican), 613
New Mexico (democratic), 453
California (democratic), 435
Hawaii (democratic), 143

The four highest death rates are in Republican states, according to your theory the "non-mask wearing"
Seeing as how at least FL, AZ and TX refused to lock down, general health in MS (obesity etc) is poor, and my presumption that in Red states mask compliance is low I'm not surprised.

Id be a but worried if I were SF. They were barely hit in wave 1 at all and I presume the many junkies there will not pay any attention to masks and social distancing.

Worth also considering with SF that the number of kids is low and an unusually high % are in private schools.

"There has been a growing consensus among health experts that the COVID-19 virus can be spread through the air. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revised its guidance this month to say the pathogen can linger in the air for hours."

Now that is worrying!
I find it worrying that this wasn’t suspected from the outset, there’s no harm in taking extra precautions that aren’t/weren’t mandated.

Similarly I never trusted the CDC assurances early on regarding surgical masks being sufficient, always felt like an attempt to avert panic and stockpiling of FFP2/3 masks

Seems a virtual certainty a 2nd lockdown will be imposed, even if only for a short time frame

Air spread is old news. All medical staff in CZ wear respirators. Tech unies printed them on 3d printers, flew them to departments on drones, etc. I got one, too. It is perfect, washable. Just impossible to lecture in, really.

I have doubts about the lockdown, people quickly adapted already, only few souls outside..Conseil federal is taking time because every day of shut economy is so expensive.

Yeah, cash. A buddy in SF texted me about gradual deconfinement, but I am not sure about schools actually opening, I'll google around. Shucks, hope google forgives me my herecy. I'll feed it some mean cookies.

The school I saw at Sunset was amazing and public.

Mini-lockdown I think is 1wk-2wks all stops to blow the virus's fuse for a min. Slowdown is everyone on homeoffice, staying out of streets but schools still on, and social events minimized but still on, bars and restos on but kerfew. That's how I understand the difference now between CZ and CH. CZ only haulted after some 5 days of 8000-12000 cases per day. CH is not there yet. Cantons need to brainstorm, too, but they can react independently (as Valais just did). VD is expected to inform us on Friday.
From what I’ve read in the 20 minutes online, I’m expecting masks for students in Sec. I and not only Sec. II. Which would totally make sense IMHO.

Re: Coronavirus

Anyone in Basel who wants to get anything from Germany should do it tomorrow (Friday). On Sat. Germany is requiring anyone from Switzerland goes into quarantine.

Wasn´t there the exception in Baden-Württemberg for shoppers? A stay less than 24 hours does not require a quarantine.

No, if you're for up to 24 hours and from one of the border regions you don't need a test and quarantine (Appenzell, Aargau, Basel, Basel-Landschaft, Jura, Schaffhausen, Solothurn, Sankt Gallen, Thurgau and Zürich)

Yesss! The Trader Joe is still there nearby, awesome brunch. I miss the ocean front walks.

Yeah, so they are deconfining.

But they have been in lockdown for real long.

This morning at 6am started lockdown of services/retail in CZ. Schools closed on 14 of Oct.

Most services stayed opened 24hrs till 6am this morning . Like...barbers.

By now, people count on getting sick and surviving. They just don't want to lose their livelyhood on top of that.

It is a semi-lockdown, people allowed to transport themselves to work, food store, pharmacy, family and walks outside (for resilience, it is encouraged). Just avoid any social contacts and be responsible without relying on authority. 2 people max outside (minus those in one household).

But 15000 cases was a shock this morning. Ro 1.36 I think I read, over 30% positivity of all tests.
