Our efforts to protect the 'vulnerable' (I could also make the argument that children and teens are some of our most vulnerable citizens and they're paying the worst price for this crisis) are destroying our society.
LMAO. Have you seen any teens and kids lately? They are usually at the ice cream stand or a the kebap place. 6 weeks of summer holiday are perfectly fine, yet 6 weeks no or remote schooling leave irreparable damage ...

And yes, the "vulnerable". You mean anyone who may need a hospital bed because of illness (Covid or not) or an accident?

Re: Coronavirus

We're heading for a pretty big lockdown I think .. the announcements over the past week are easing us into it, canton by canton, getting a little stricter each time..

Today M.Berset has some pretty strong words on Facebook, he's coming to VD for another announcement tomorrow.. Then the federal announcement Wednesday.

Get your toilet rolls in quick.

Whatever lock-down means.

People need to understand that they have to reduce their physical contacts. If people would just spend the time they waste following some Instagram influencers talking about make-up or video games on online rather than physical interactions with their family and friends.

Thankfully all the necessities of life are in my fallout shelter already with plenty of toilet rolls this time round.

Re: Coronavirus

One of the things I've noticed, for us, that is difficult in regard to limited contact is my son's friends. Kids wanting to come over, their parents wanting me to babysit, etc. I've had to force myself to be more strict about that. He also belongs to a youth organization and we had him not go to their meet-up yesterday (which he was fine with), even though the meet-up had not been canceled.

So in my opinion... That's part of the problem. A lot of people will not limit contact unless and until they are forced to by new restrictions. But clearly, some people are more worried than others about getting this virus and/or passing it along to others.

You should see Ikea yesterday. And I was hoping to be the only one there. And they don't even sell toilet paper there. They do sell toilets, true..still

Agree. My feeling is that many more people than in spring will simply ignore the guidance on private meetings. Maybe until they see people getting sick in their direct environment.

I don't think they'll have another lockdown. They just need to enforce the current preventative measures which should result in a decrease in cases within the next two weeks.

Hopefully.

I'm sorry, but you're wrong.

the number of infections is too manipulative number
number of deaths is much more trustworthy
that's basically my point

A 100 people have trustworthily died from Covid in Ukraine yesterday, per the official stats. 6000 registered cases. I guess the virus doesn't give a damn about how you define a wave.

But yes, given the number of deaths, UA is likely underreporting cases.

second wave is not about cases. its abut hospitalizations/deaths
So on 16th October it was about hospitalisations / deaths. Now the hospitalisations are shooting up it's only about deaths.

What will be your story in a couple of weeks when the deaths shoot up?

How? You test positive or you don't. Relatively simple.

Oh excepting we know from the positive rate we are undertesting and missing many infections so the second wave is actually stronger than the headline number suggests.

It is about how many more children are dying in Africa because of the Swiss measures.

Re: Coronavirus

Just learnt from a nurse that all intensive beds in our local hospital are occupied and the hospital itself is pretty well full. Seems they have had a very high number of admissions over the weekend.

Non-urgent operations are being postponed. Not because of lockdown, because they simply have no capacity any more.
