Just learnt from a nurse that all intensive beds in our local hospital are occupied and the hospital itself is pretty well full. Seems they have had a very high number of admissions over the weekend.

Non-urgent operations are being postponed. Not because of lockdown, because they simply have no capacity and more.
F-ing great. Especially as this is a function of transmission from 2 weeks ago.

Re: Coronavirus

Same in Neuchâtel- all elective operations cancelled. Went to pick up my brother from Chablais Hospital on Friday- they were very busy too.

A friend in the UK posted a photo of British holiday makers returning from a Greek airport today- packed like sardines in hot weather- and they won't have to self isolate.

How? You test positive or you don't. Relatively simple.
easy: testing everyone, testing with mild symptoms, testing only severe cases, etc

This. CZ has the most growth per 100 000 inhabiants per day and most CV deaths currently, in the world. We got there in a few days. Yet the real number of positive people is expected to be at least double of positive tests. They got 800 people in more than a critical state now in ICUs, thousands in Covid wards. Medical staff wear thick gardening rubber boots/gloves to withstand so much desinfecting and sterilizing. Beds will not be a problem I think in two weeks, but personnel. The next 2 weeks will be critical I think, the prime minister announced further hardening measures if there isn't a miracle the next few days. The general director of Czech Postal Services just announced getting it for the 2nd time, after his 1st infection early March, he's doing ok. He said he expected it, the immunity lasts per him a couple of months. The country hopes for vax early January.

Three more friends have been confirmed with Covid over the weekend. Two have a sore throat, the third has quite a bad cough. Starting to feel like the best way to avoid getting Covid is to not get tested for it!

Re: Coronavirus

It's interesting how some people are so desperately trying to downplay the reality of the situation by acting as though the current spread of the virus is not serious and ignoring the fact that ICU beds are becoming filled up.

I guess some people prefer to live inside the comfort bubble of their delusions.

"If I pretend it's not happening... If I convince myself it's not happening... then it's not happening."

"If it's not right here in front of me... something I can see and experience for myself... then it's not real."

Wake up.

The same idea works for reducing teenage pregnancies by stopping pregnancy testing.

I spent the whole day today outside with bunch of friends. We are really worried about corona. We were so worried we spent the day getting vitamin B in liquid form and we made sure we get plenty of vitamin D

While we were worrying about corona we had to fix something to eat so around 60kgs of this was being prepared. Again, we were very worried

Was it International Hillbilly Day today?

Are those cats or squirrels, or?

Anyways, thank you for so perfectly exemplifying and validating my original statement.

Re: Coronavirus

"Highest alert level: Valais hospital has to move corona patients
The hospital center of the French-speaking Valais (CHVR) has declared the highest level of alert for Monday due to the corona pandemic. Patients would have to be transferred to other hospitals, said CHVR director Eric Bonvin this evening the broadcaster "Radio Rhône".

There were 124 corona patients in the CHVR hospitals on Sunday, ten of them in intensive care. The increase is constant and worrying, Bonvin said.

The current situation is comparable to that at the height of the first wave on March 23rd. This time, however, the measures against the pandemic were taken later. "The week ahead will be very difficult," said Bonvin.

Therefore, a crisis team will be in action from Monday. In the current situation, the hospital center is dependent on outside help. "We will see to what extent we can transfer patients to other structures," said Bonvin. Valais patients could therefore be brought to the Oberwalliser hospital and then to other cantons.

Another problem is that nursing staff is also increasingly affected by infections. You would not get infected at work, but in private. Currently, 50 medical staff in the French-speaking part of the canton are already infected with the coronavirus and can no longer work. Their number was increasing day by day"

And the irony is that supposedly this virus began by people eating bats.

Enjoy your rodents.

Thankfully all the necessities of life are in my fallout shelter already with plenty of toilet rolls this time round.
Same. We've only had 6 mths to prepare this time, and god only knows what I'm going to do with all that vodka. Silly thing is, I've just shopped like I would before Christmas...a couple of extra items each week or when something we use a lot is on rabatt. Glad I did too as our local place was heaving last night. I honestly thought Zurich canton had made an announcement when the place got busy so late in the day.

Re: Coronavirus

Any medically trained retirees available to volunteer at Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève?

Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève calls for volunteers as numbers rise rapidly

"The hospital seeks medical, care and administrative volunteers to bolster and relieve their staff. In addition, they seek those who might have recently retired or who are on leave.

Bertrand Levrat, the hospital’s chief, said that it’s highly likely that the hospital’s peak number of 550 Covid-19 patients reached during the first wave will be exceeded in the coming days. We expect the number of beds and professionals required to care for both Covid and non-Covid patients will be far higher than during spring, he said.

The hospital is currently winding up non-urgent surgery to free up beds and personnel for the coming influx of Covid patients."
