Re: Coronavirus

Here's a facebook post (in German) by Simone Meyer, a medical professional (a doctor?) in Zurich, dated 25th October 2020.

She describes how the hospitals are filling up, and how the pressure is increasing, given that quite a number of hospital staff have Covid19 themselves, and cannot work. She's on the front, and dealing with the Covid19 cases, and because she sees the reality of it daily, she's frustrated by the denialists, and by those who decide not to make the sensible behavioural modifications.

So looks like we will lose most of 2021 to Corona too?
If and when a vaccine becomes available, I want all the politicians to take it first in front of the camera.

And the irony is that supposedly this virus began by people eating bats.
Allegedly. According to one of my friends nobody eats bats in China.

According to wiki your friend is wrong

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bat_as_food

"Bats are not specifically protected in China and many species are eaten, especially in southern China, where bats are found regularly in markets. Requests from international agencies following the SARS outbreak, that wildlife legislation be introduced in China prohibiting inter alia hunting and sale of bats have been ignored."

It's interesting how some people are so desperately trying to downplay the reality of the situation by acting as though the current spread of the virus is not serious and ignoring the fact that ICU beds are becoming filled up.

I guess some people prefer to live inside the comfort bubble of their delusions.

"If I pretend it's not happening... If I convince myself it's not happening... then it's not happening."

"If it's not right here in front of me... something I can see and experience for myself... then it's not real."

Wake up.
The Coronavirus is not something that will affect the vast majority of people in any meaningful way. A double-dip recession caused by unnecessary panic, overreaction and the spreading of fear however will affect us all.

The Coronavirus will indeed affect only 1-2% of the population. But the general panic mode pushing governments to overreact will affect the rest 98-99%.

One more lesson in our limited ability to think objectively in terms of real vs. perceived risks.

Careful now, a loss of taste or smell is a known symptom.

I've been in bad taste for years so I don't know if there will be any difference for myself.

How's the office today Roegner? My company has now implemented a mask policy so that you wear one everywhere but at your desk. Meetings have just become more unintelligible.

Same here. It was "funny", Friday mornng: no you do not have to wear a mask. Friday afternoon: masks are compulsive.

And still nothing on working from home........

Don't waste your time. I arrived at the conclusion that he is just a troll.
Its good to have a few that have a different way of thinking about the situation and the impact. This keeps this conversation interesting. I wouldn't call them "trolls" just because they look at the situation in another angle with some logical points (although may not really be practical).

So as far as I can see, there are three major groups here:

1. Who worry about health and well being of people
2. who worry about the economy more than above
3. Who doesn't have a clue whats going on

Two of the above groups can be concluded as one group

How come you still do not get it? It's very simple. The whole health system is about to be overrun unless we take urgent and drastic corrective action. Or do you want to live in a world without functioning hospitals? And I don't just mean for Coronavirus, this will affect everyone that needs care of any sort.

For example

The problem is there are a handful who wilfully post lies or just completely make stuff up. Leaving the saner part of this forum (relatively speaking) to highlight and correct the lie wwhich the trolls just ignore and more on to the next lie.

The only motivation for that bunch is to get a reaction so yes, "Troll" fits them perfectly.

I agree there are others that are simply ignorant or misguided.

I'll pass him this info, where would we be without wiki... In the region he comes from they're definitely not on the menu, I suppose.

Regardless, we still don't know for sure how the virus has been transmitted.

Indeed, however not everybody will pick the same 2 out of 3, I think the majority of both groups fall into 3.
