65+ ordered to stay at home unless for essential activities.
Which is, I suspect, the reason the following text showed up in media to warn those at risk who aren't taking the threat seriously:

This. But again that point was discussed 100 pages ago and then again three million tines before that.
It didn't exactly answer my questions but then I didn't quite expect anyone would..

There're entire demographic groups between 40 and 65 that can't just stay home or can't just not mix with the afore mentioned group. Known moderate risk groups too. Families with members belonging to different risk groups.

Only once, however, did I meet a person (and it was not one of the abovedescribed) who exhibited any kind of "hysteria" or "panic" about Corona and Covid19. It remains a mystery to me how these phrases recur in the media (including but not only EF) when, in real life, it seems so very, very rare.

Exactly. Perhaps exhibiting any kind of worries is labeled as hysteria. In this case, I don't who's more hysterical...

Re: Coronavirus

REGN-COV2, the Trump-tested antibody cocktail for treatment of COVID-19, has hit a major speedbump. Regeneron, the developer of the therapy, has been informed that the trials of the cocktail have generated a potential safety signal, i.e. there are concerns about the risk/benefit profile of the drugs. Regeneron has been ordered to halt enrolment of sicker patients (the ones the therapy was most expected to help) while data on those already enrolled is analyzed.

Re: Coronavirus

From the Guardian today:

'' A study suggesting a coronavirus variant originating in Spain now accounts for most UK cases has highlighted the weakness of the government’s travel policies over the summer, experts have said.
Research from scientists in Switzerland, which is yet to be peer-reviewed, has revealed that a new variant of coronavirus, known as 20A.EU1, appears to have cropped up in Spain during the summer and has since spread to multiple European countries, including the UK.
“In Wales and Scotland the variant was at 80% in mid-September, whereas frequencies in Switzerland and England were around 50% at that time,” the authors said.

Global report: Spain declares Covid state of emergency as Italians urged to stay home

The variant appeared in the UK in the middle of July when quarantine-free travel to Spain was allowed for England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. However, the new variant of the virus is now common in countries across Europe, meaning travellers to and from many countries could since have brought it back to the UK.

Agreed. Although for the greater good, etc., a tolerable and effective vaccine has higher priority. Keep fingers crossed, thumbs pressed, etc.

I am actually not so sure. If indeed immunity does not last long, proper treatment may be at least as important.

FIL passed Tuesday. 94. Complications from dementia. Tested positive for C-19. Some fluid in the lungs, but lung capacity never deteriorated during his 2 weeks in hospital. Effectively asymptomatic.

This would be a case of an outlier on the high end of the age range.

Very interested to see which column his death will be counted in.
Almost certainly will be recorded as a Covid death. My sister is a front line healthcare worker (and academic) and says at her hospital 1/3 of the recorded Covid deaths from the first wave were already palliative.

Considering that for the french the only acceptable justification for going outside their homes is for essential work purposes, medical appointments, to help vulnerable individuals, exercise for one hour within a 1km radius of their homes and to do grocery shopping it would be very strange if we could just nip over for some shoping.
Just visited Divonne this afternoon, business as usual, no checks anywhere, border open, full of people and lots of CH cars shopping at Carrefour

And why not? Border hasn't closed and tourism d'achat isn't forbidden.

No true. I didn't consider that - although obviously that was a bit dense of me. Though I guess the elderly gentleman may also have been living abroad.

Id issuance guidance for the 50-65s with risk factors to stay at home but leave it up to them as

a) enforceability would be too difficult (and almost all deaths are 65+ anyway), and

b) concerns about people in employment

Obviously there are cases where this wouldn't help but I bet the large majority of over 65s don't live with an under 65 - and many of those who do would be at the younger end with a partner just under the cut off.

Just found this article

"Shopping tourism remains possible with a certificate"

"Be careful, however, both French and foreigners must bring a duly completed certificate, under penalty of a fine."

Lack of Vitamin D also seems to be a factor being confirmed too.
Perhaps a reason why ethnic minorities have been affected in the UK to a larger extent. Make sure you get out there and get some fresh air and sun as often as you can.

It will be. In 10-14 days. TF confirmed this today. Simple math. TF/BAG also confirmed that other surgeries are already being postponed and GP's are increasingly at capacity.

So much for the horseshit that it is the "lock-down" that causes the treatment issues that led to additional suffering and death.

Are there some admission criteria between the cantons for the case one canton has no more capacity? Is that a decision of the receiving hospital/canton?

Asking from a canton with 1 bed left ...
Six intensive care patients were transferred from Neuchâtel to either Bern or Lausanne over the past few days so there is obviously some scope for movement between cantons.

Quite a few of the drug candidates i work with are efficacious but have toxicity concerns. That and most large scale clinical trials get paused on safety concerns anyway - often the Patient will develop an unrelated illness that needs to be checked out to make sure it is indeed not linked to the drug.

Germany has thousands of idle beds, and they can offer them for probably half the price of a Swiss hospital ...
