You're all for free speech as long as you agree with the speech right? Very convenient! It's quite entertaining that you wrote such a long and frankly vengeful post now, but where is your similar post when other members of EF were posting lies and misinformation? Oh yes, you actually agree with their view and hence, no need to call them out. In fact, when said members posted lies and misinformation, it was the people calling them out that were banned and received the groans, myself included.
Who is posting lies? There's a great deal of BS and grandstanding misinformation, sure.
Plenty of folk, yourself included, hop on a specific drum and bang it to the detriment of all else.

If you think the success of Swiss pandemic control depends on Tony's posts then we are truly _ _ _ _ _ d

I don't agree with a lot of his points, specially on masks, but he does bring a bit of balance to the discussion. No matter how absurd his posts might be, just counter them with better knowledgeable posts. Let better ideas win on merit and not on big tech style selective censorship.
If it were an actual debate, sure. But it's just whacamole with the volume turned up to eleven.

Just try to remember, for the vast majority of people, you are in control of whether you catch the virus or not.
Er... how exactly are we in control? If it were that easy the numbers wouldn't be rising.

Indeed it feels like that, people who want to be locked up at home and watch netflix just to feel safe from this flu are complaining the most why there isn't a lockdown.

If you want to feel safe and lock your self up, nobody is forbidding it, you can do it yourself, not go out, stay at home, work or not from home, shop from home.

Luckily for me I don't know anybody this hysterical in real world as some of our EF members here regarding this flu

Leave the rest of us who don't give a toss about this flu to live freely. We can live with the "consequences"
Not the flu, dude. Not the flu. It's views like this that cause so much upset.

Stupid question: weren't they before?
Yep. Pregnant women always been in vulnerable group in UK at least. IIRC childbirth is still one of the most dangerous things a woman can ever do. That plus a pandemic... *shudder*...

I enjoy debate and discussion, however when arguments come down to semantics and nit picking in order to try and get the "win", then it's no longer worth engaging. There are certain people on this forum who for whatever reason seem to hold a special status whereby they can nitpick, provoke, be passive aggressive, use offensive language, be rude and get away with it without any sort of reprimand. It is a far better user experience to simply mute such people.

I'm still not certain you do debate tbh. You exclaim. And often do just as you describe above.

I don't expect masks to be a silver bullet, I just want to see some evidence that they work. Seat Belts, Bike Helmets, Condoms are the "go to" comparison, but for those there is undeniable evidence that they work, and work significantly too.

This is the whole problem with the mask debate. It just keeps getting whittled down into points that cannot be proven. When it was clear that masks don't protect the wearer, we were told "that they're not supposed to protect the wearer rather other people" something that is just not demonstrable on a mass scale through experimentation. Or being told that "if it weren't for masks we would be in a far worse situation now" (also despite the lack of any evidence to prove this). Then at last we come to the final and worst argument of the lot "they're not not such an inconvenience so we shouldn't complain about wearing them, even if they don't help".

I hope and pray in 30 years time that people will have realised the folly of blindly following instructions for an imagined greater good.

Yes but where would you ever get a control group from? Plenty of folk don't wear bike helmets either. Fools.

Oh come on, yesterday was ridiculous. An unwarranted, personal attack from someone who is supposed to be a moderator on this forum. I think I should be entitled to enjoy this small vindication.
It happens a lot. Often in the guise of "humour". See below.

"Austria reconfines itself and establishes a curfew
The Austrian government announced on Saturday a new containment, with the establishment of a curfew and the closure of restaurants, hotels, cultural and sports institutions, in an attempt to stem the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"A second lockdown is in place from Tuesday until the end of November," Conservative Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said at a press conference in Vienna"

"Greece announces partial lockdown from Tuesday
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced partial lockdown from Tuesday to combat the second wave of Covid-19, with a nighttime curfew and the closure of bars and restaurants in Athens and other cities across the country.

"It's not a lockdown like in the spring," the prime minister said in a televised message to the nation on Saturday. “The measures will start at 6 am Tuesday and traffic will be banned after midnight and until 5 am,” Kyriakos Mitsotakis added, stressing that action must be taken now so that the intensive care units are not overwhelmed

Im 32 and would certainly rather not have it . Not particularly worried about not surviving but I'd rather not risk being uncomfortable for a week or two with a toddler. Do they know where they caught it?
He caught it at rugby practice from a teammate-we all told him perhaps playing rugby wasn’t the best idea, but it is his “sanity” and I can respect that as fitness is mine as well. Since I’m at risk, I’ve had to be creative at staying fit risk free ... it is harder in winter.

I actually enjoy the outdoor so much more than in the summer, tbh. Running or working out outside is just better. True that it is pita when it rains but the rewarding feeling is that much sweeter..H&M started selling decent winter outdoor workout stuff now, not just show-off gym stuff. It is really affordable.

Is there any information on changes to rules for travelling to/from the UK?

The press conference was delayed by over 2 and a half hours so that it didn't interupt the rugby, and the BBC cut it short so that Strictly wasn't delayed.

This is all I can see so far. Perhaps there'll be more detail later in the week...

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-nati...rom-5-november

In the link:

'Overnight stays and holidays away from primary residences will not be allowed- including holidays in the UK and abroad. This includes staying in a second home, if you own one, or staying with anyone you do not live with or are in a support bubble with. There are specific exceptions, for example if you need to stay away from home (including in a second home) for work purposes.'

Probably but can't see anything definite in the announcements so far. Outbound travel is basically kiĺled apart from business so I guess inward will be difficult...probably won't be any flights anyway.

Quote:
Most outbound international travel will be banned, aside from for business purposes, and overnight stays away from home within the UK will also only be allowed for work.
