Let me give you a generic expert answer:
It's too early to draw conclusions.
The r-rate is still too high.
The government needs to take more measures.
It's not over yet.
(pick one or more)
Well, the Röstigraben is in full force today. Calling for new measures proposed by the CH federal governent will be quite controversial unless cantons in problems declare a full lockdown first.

It takes a long time to ensure a vaccine is safe.
Is taking a vaccine too soon before it is well tested better or worse than no vaccine?
Case in point;

Source
Trials get paused the whole time - quite often though there is nothing wrong with the vaccine but the doctors need to understand fully what may have happened to a particular patient.

Another trial was halted because one of the people on the trial died - it continued when it was announced that he had actually been given a placebo and not the actual vaccine.

Aah but remember folks with symptoms are being turned away from testing in some test centers (see a recent post from Neuchatel on this I believe from Belgianmum).

Secondly 20min has a story today on folks apparently having symptoms, self-isolating and not going for testing which the experts are frowning upon.

Not to mention the guy in Fribourg kantonal hospital taking to twitter last night.

20min are also asking folks to share their stories of delayed care indirectly due to COVID19 (some of us are at home awaiting surgical appointments for other time-sensitive conditions where we‘d need a bed and care for 10-14 days post-op, where there is less capacity each day at the moment). Not to mention months of therapy afterwards.

There may be beds, but (intensive) care staff take 5 years to train.......unless one knows somewhere we can send empty planes returning full of fully qualified english/german/french/italian speaking staff......landing clearance will be easy.

Well yea, that is what they are saying - far too soon to make any changes:

I know of 3 people who have been turned away despite having symptoms...the system is currently a mess.

I don't believe there will be a shortage of frightened people who will take the vaccine at the first opportunity.
And bored people who want to go on holiday without feeling weird and on edge.

I'll happily take it. Looks like vaccine skepticism is quite high in CH - so there may be a decent chance that its offered to the young and willing earlier than expected.

Yes, it is very confusing.

In the press conference today they say to go and get tested even if one only has very minor symptoms.
But in reality ppl are turned away or told only to go if major symtoms are present

They're also admitting now, everything is a patchwork without the infrastructure to cope.

But let's keep the current system for now. (we have time I guess, and time's free) Let's see how the cantons react.

One of the reasons there isn't much budget is the cantonal public funds already spent subsidising private health insurance premiums since the recent public option failed at referendum. Would anyone like to guess what percentage overall of premiums receive state subsidy?

The recent Army mobilisation is worrying as surely most of the reservists are existing civilian medical staff already "deployed" in the private system?

Or perhaps tell Swiss people for once that they really do not need to do their shopping in Germany?

It works both ways.

Re: Coronavirus

Excellent article and sums it up quite well, there is no doubt in my mind that we will be in a very bad situation come December:

https://foreignpolicy.com/2020/11/10...tm_name=iossmf

"But keeping businesses open and holding the purse strings tight may not only be bad health policy but also bad economics. As the fear of contagion starts to creep in, the Swiss are reducing their social life anyway, mobility data shows—leaving restaurants open but without clients. There is no trade-off between health and the economy, the Swiss are learning. Exploding case numbers have not prevented a steep rise in business insolvencies.

In this crisis, one may have to pause life and parts of the economy for a while in order to bounce back stronger and healthier later. In an open letter, 50 economics professors have pleaded with the Swiss government to finally introduce a soft lockdown. The government still dithers. "

I just saw that there was a press conference earlier today.

Were there any announcements in terms of new restrictions?
