Re: Coronavirus

1. Getting appointments for non Corona related issues are as easy as it always been.
2. Went to local large hospital for MRI, the hospital is almost empty.
3. Every epidemiologist would tell you that Corona-viruses always spike way up during exactly this part of the year.

Increase in Covid cases should have been expected by anyone who has basic reading skills.

Flu pandemic this year has been cancelled by Covid 19 restrictions, distancing and lack of pointless international travel. Southern hemisphere saw their seasonal flu numbers down 99% year over year. They are the real predictor of what is coming this year to our neck of the woods

Trials get paused the whole time - quite often though there is nothing wrong with the vaccine but the doctors need to understand fully what may have happened to a particular patient.

Another trial was halted because one of the people on the trial died - it continued when it was announced that he had actually been given a placebo and not the actual vaccine.
Just wrapping up on this, the China vaccine trial case in Brazil was a trial participant dying....of suicide. Nothing to do with the vaccine.

Seems the whole trial pause is some idiotic political posturing by Bolsonaro.

Re: Coronavirus

When Pfizer announced on Monday that its own vaccine was more than 90% effective, Russia's health
ministry immediately declared the same for Sputnik, although it's still in the midst of mass trials.

Just as an aside observation wasn't Sputnik the first to be launched into orbit back in 1957, long before
the wests challenger, namely the United States could put a satellite into orbit ?

BBC News - Russia resists lockdown and pins hopes on its own Sputnik V vaccine

Russian health trials can put Russian elections to shame in terms of achieving predetermined results. So the minister can be quite confident with his announcement.

I think its not as bad as all that - but you could just track hospitalisations. Which appear to be somewhat improving.
Nope - I suspect you saw an incomplete graph Ucantons can be slow in reporting). According to the one on SF the number heads upwards only
https://www.srf.ch/news/schweiz/coro...in-der-schweiz

Also if you look at the intensive beds graph youi will see that these are only coping because there's about 50% less non-covid cases than usual. That's a lot of relatively urgent but non-emergency operations that have been cancelled at short notice. Hope you're not waiting for a cardiac bypass...

If test capacity is getting tight, I think this is a sensible approach. Two weeks ago, testing was buzzing. Not clear why tests are way down now.
Most probably someone (or a group of someones) screwed up and simply failed to build enough testing capacity, be that trained personnel, machines or reagents. Probably the latter.

To educate the anti-maskers
Quote:
A new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said masks not only protect the general public from COVID-19, but also protect the mask wearer.

In its strongest endorsement to date about the effectiveness of masks, the CDC said "adopting universal masking policies can help avert future lockdowns.
Seven separate studies have confirmed the benefit of universal masking.

No.

Honestly - why did you have to even mention that? Although it's without merit, the nutter element on here will probably try to start something with the idea.

One week ago 10,073. Looking like the cases have flattened out now. 7 day average will give the full story.

Re: Coronavirus

I wear mask simply out of respect for others and because it is a very low burden to me.
I don't know if masks reduce Covid transmission and neither does CDC or Goldman Saks.
Population in US is increasingly compliant with mask wearing and yet US has a huge wave of infections. EU countries are even more compliant than US with mask wearing and yet they are also going through the worst number of cases. Increased testing does not skew the picture because real cases that show up at hospitals are clearly on the rise compare to March-April. So if masks were that effective why are we having the worst Covid spike to date?

Why is mainstream media hiding these results from us? What's your agenda in denying the FACTS baboon?

Sarcasm.

With the release of any of the vaccines it will probably have a catalogue of potential side effects longer than the usual "these anti-depressants may cause side effects including depression, mild weight gain in your left foot, suicidal thoughts, acne, heart attacks, a feeling of having left the stove on, strokes, asymmetrical shoe purchasing, dizziness, unwavering support of the PRC, double vision, uneven sock wear, etc.
