Of course it's not over yet, nobody said that. But the current measures seem to be working quite well, so no need for alarmism and panic, this was my point.
And that’s why we need to maintain those measures and not relax them just yet.
With the exception of a couple of cantons there is nothing too onerous in the measures in place at the moment so if we can all stick to them for a while longer we should be able to keep things under control.

Absolutely! The current measures seem adequate and seem to be working. Neither relax, nor introduce anything harsher as has been suggested in this thread. This is the point I'm making

Re: Coronavirus

Is there any evidence that government actions or measures have any effect on the virus? I remain highly skeptical that we can control this infection in any meaningful fashion.
We can make people less panicky by closing random isles in the supermarket or posting messages and distributing masks, but do we have any evidence any of this is working to reduce the infection rates?

I suggest you start reading this thread from page one. I of course assume you are genuinely interested and not just trolling.

Which conveniently ignores the fact that that approach doesn't work. Sweden tried and failed miserably.

Also ignores the issue of long covid which very definitely is a problem for under 65s.
Since when did Sweden lock down over 65s?

Well the announcement UK lockdown appears to have caused a "rush to the pub" and a big increase in cases just as the cases were peaking.

It's also ensured Boris has lost my vote if he is still leader at the next election.

Quote:
22 October2020, Swedes aged over 70 and other at-risk groups should now follow the same coronavirus guidelines as the rest of the population, the authorities say.

Sweden previously advised those groups to avoid all close contact with people they did not live with.

If a lock down is the same as an advice and over 65 is the same as over 70, then yes

Different cultures have different responses, one man's advice is another man's action. Sweden is not Anglo Saxon; Scrupulous compliance with laws and social conventions is widespread because of moral pressure from fellow citizens.

Covid aside, that is true and makes Sweden rank quite low on the list of countries to live in.

Over whatever age is irrelevant. The point is they tried and failed.

Also they tried to isolate care homes - banned visits, the usual. But of course forgot that care home staff have to come from somewhere and will mot agree to isolate with the residents.

It is simply impossible to truly isolate a whole generation.

Same problem as the Caribbean; wine is too expensive.

Not sure if serious. You draw distinction between Swedes and Brits along the lines of being obedient big government people? Laws and social conventions are less observed in Britain, really???
For god's sake these people speak the same language, how different can they be?
''The people we call Anglo-Saxons were actually immigrants from northern Germany and southern Scandinavia.''

Imagine there's another pandemic in the next couple of decades which disproportionately affects the under 25s. We wouldn't even be having this line of conversation.

We probably wouldn't, they'd all be locked up and told it's for their own good.
