Having read in more detail now, there are a few things that jump out. The masks that were used were high quality masks, not cloth ones and instructions were given on how to wear them. Also, covid symptoms did not differ between those who wore masks and those that didn’t, which doesn't really support the theory that make the disease is made milder due to masks by reducing the viral load.

After these findings, people should be screaming for more research to be done on this topic, and more RCTs. This is a good start that needs to be built upon. Unfortunately it seems all too many people are simply out to discredit the research. I've come to the conclusion that many people simply like wearing masks and the comfort/conditioning that they provide. Either that or it's the classic cognitive dissonance reaction.

That the paper wasn't published by other leading medical journals speaks volumes and is something that we should really be concerned about. This interview given by the authors before the publication sheds a little more light on the matter.

https://swprs.org/the-suppressed-danish-mask-study/
Some more peer comments from the journal about the study.
  • The authors state that only "46% of participants wore the mask as recommended" in the mask group but failed to ask participants in the no mask group about their usage of the mask.
  • The results, at best, can be considered anecdotal.
  • The experiment does not demonstrate whether mask-wearing actually took place.

Edit: I could not resist adding this one
  • The trial design and the associated results remind me of the randomized controlled trials assessing the efficacy of a "prayer" intervention.

...You and a few friends continue to bring up lockdowns as if we're all chained to our couches months later, which is simply not the case. You again posted an article from June to try and prove your point instead of coming up with a recent solution. We've moved on, you should too.

I noticed that Switzerland has surprisingly low number of deaths in the category under 50 years, even under 60. I constantly read about 30-40 years old dying of covid in some exUSSR countries (not many of them, of course, but quite some), especially during the "second wave", but CH has only 16 Covid victims younger than 50 years (I don't consider the baby, who was brought to CH in serious condition) out of about 3500, and most of them died still in spring. I wonder what does Switzerland do differently as there are basically no universal drugs against Covid, only some drugs that help some of the patients to avoid some complications. Maybe people are overall healthier here, but again, 25% of population are foreigners. To me it's a mistery.
People are healthy & generally fit, food quality is good & high standard of health care.

The question isn't about me or you or our life in Switzerland during soft lockdown.

Millions in the world will die or suffer directly or indirectly from lockdowns around the world, something many many people have warned from the beginning.

I think for most people it's more comfortable not to think about the consequences that are happening or could be happening far away

But I guess, as you say, they'll move on

For the umpteenth time...
Cause - Covid-19
Effect - lockdown.

When you're living in a country that ran out of it's regular ICU beds a few days ago and has resorted to it's back-up supply, it's astonishing that you see lockdown as the supreme villian of the piece when most of the country isn't even in lockdown

Re: Coronavirus

This thread seems to have basically turned into an endless cycle of a few well-intentioned souls with limitless patience and seemingly nothing more fun to do with their day, humouring a select few people suffering from a state of mind that appears heavy with delusions and denial. If at this point anyone is still denying the seriousness of the pandemic or the necessity of the measures in place, measures that are being globally agreed by teams of scientist and experts, then they most probably have genuine psychological problems and/or disorders.

I'm still listening to the teams of scientists and experts from March who told us not to wear masks.

It's fake news, unless you have the studies to back up these claims...
If it takes Covid to finally perform additional studies on the topic, maybe there's a positive side to all of this.

Millions in the world will die? Ah, you are the one suffering from lockdown hysteria.
I know you can't see much further than what is happening around you, but yes in the end there will be many more casualties from hunger due to the lockdown than the virus itself.

Quote:
There is a grave danger that many more people will die from the broader economic and social consequences of COVID-19 than from the virus itself, especially in Africa. And the last thing we need is to have the cure be worse than the disease itself.

United Nations World Food Programme

Quote:
COVID-related hunger could kill more people than the virus

It’s estimated that 9 million people die of hunger each year, more than the death toll of AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.

But the pandemic could make the situation even worse, as the breakdown of supply chains has left the World Food Programme and other United Nations agencies struggling.

Re: Coronavirus

A very interesting new paper (a preliminary report so take it with all the usual user warnings). It suggests however that exposure to coronaviruses over a longer period of time may have led to increased genetic resistance in East-Asians. This is something I've also speculated about this earlier in this discussion.

An ancient coronavirus-like epidemic drove adaptation in East Asians from 25,000 to 5,000 years ago
