Re: Coronavirus

A few days ago in this thread, I had asked about how reliable rapid tests are -- particularly if they have a high risk of false negatives.

I just had a rapid test done a couple hours ago at the new testing site that recently popped up in our village (The result was negative. Yay!). I asked the guy giving the test how reliable the rapid tests are, and he said they're about 98% reliable and especially if they're done within 5 days of the first symptoms appearing.

Anyways... Just thought I'd mention that in case it's information that anyone else might find useful.

Fitnesses (canton Vaud) are allowed to reopen again.

I had argued earlier than I didn't want a lockdown - I do think that reopening in the French bit is a little premature though. It'd be nice to get out of the wave before attempting this.

It seems to me that whatever we had about a week or two ago was about right everywhere.

Neuchâtel extended their measures for a further two weeks yesterday which seems about right to me.
We have no shop closures and hairdressers etc remain open but the restrictions on other things remain in place until December 6th.
I think by then they will have a good idea of how things stand and what they can relax in time for Christmas.

BAG/OFSP summary for week 46 of 2020 (9-15 November):

Cases decrease in all cantons except four.

Cumulative incidence is now under 900 per 100,000 in all cantons (yay?).

Going to the gym is so good for people.. Physically and mentally. I think closing them was silly, it's a health facility!! So I'm happy that they re-open.

Not that some of us ever stopped.. My place moved the weights and stuff outside and we just braved the cold and rain.
Today all inside again with 15sqm box each person.

Re: Coronavirus

Anyone else totally infuriated by the approach to this?

All fatalities are dreadful of course but less than 60 fatalities for people under sixty (with no medical conditions).

Billions wasted on a strategy that protects practically nobody. Surely better to isolate the elderly and medically at risk.

The numbers are being skewed by politicians everywhere now.

Ludicrous situation.

I'm still listening to the teams of scientists and experts from March who told us not to wear masks.
Listening? How?
You maybe hear their voices in the night during those quiet midnight hours?

Focused on work and thriving during the current the economic upheaval to be infuriated. That's a luxury only the rich and the bored in retirement can afford.

Still, Switzerland adopted a much more relaxed approach, and it seems to be working, despite the zealots in this thread who were sowing panic and ridiculousness since page 1 and insisting more needs to be done since the "new" measures were announced. It's not over till it's over, but I am glad that we've maintained a sense of normality: offices, schools, shops, gyms, hairdressers - all is open here.

Apart, of course, from still having one of the highest infection and death rates in Europe.

They couldn't bring that out a few weeks ago because there wasn't enough testing possible! But thankfully a poster will fix that. Still disappointing they didn't go for more festive colours though.

Red-and-yellow is also the colour scheme of the flag and coat of arms of Geneva, the canton with the most cases. Subliminal?

Re: Coronavirus

Weve all heard of people who are suffering from Long Covid but if you cast your minds back 10 or 11 years,
the Swine flu epidemic was at first thought to have all the makings of evolving into a Pandemic but in actual
fact although it caused sufferings and death, it was no more than an epidemic which in many countries
was successfully controlled.

Apparently just like Long Covid some people who caught Swine flu never really recovered from it and
here's the story of a Long Swine flu sufferer.

BBC News - Swine flu a women still suffering a decade after catching the virus

Covid, Covid, Covid is the unified chant of the Fake News Lamestream Media.
They will talk about nothing else until November 4th., when the Election will be (hopefully!) over.
Then the talk will be how low the death rate is, plenty of hospital rooms, & many tests of young people.

The United States on Thursday recorded 2,015 new coronavirus deaths according to data from Johns Hopkins University, marking the first time the country has hit over 2,000 deaths since May.

New cases also at a new record well over 180,000.
