Dry ice is quite common and relatively easy to make. It is typically at -78.5°C. Logistics difficult but not impossible. In the third world more difficult but still not impossible.
Good luck with your limited supply of frozen CO2 while queing at Dover for days, as some predict.

It would probably come by Air, if roads were a problem.

I believe the vaccine is transported via the eurotunnel so wouldn’t be going via Dover.

Assuming there will be a deal for 2021 allowing UK/EU flights.

Those would involve commercial flights. Ad-hoc charters can be arranged without an air-service agreement.

Stupid question - does the city have any powers to impose restrictions independently of the canton?
Doesn't seem a stupid question.

That will depend on the restriction, I would expect. "No" for stuff that's regulated by the Canton or on the federal level, "yes" for stuff that's regulated by the city. I would guess, for instance, that restaurants and bars can be ordered closed (earlier or altogether) by Zürich city itself.

That's what I wrote in the post bowlie replied to. For anything lifesaving and timecritical the roads seem far too unreliable, even more so after Brexit. And some stuff will probably be flown in from the US anyways.

Which continental companies/factories produce a vaccine?
Lonza for instance produces the main component only, the actual vaccine seems to be produced by Moderna in the US themselves.

Presumably also DHL planes could fly, coming from the USA where the vaccine is produced, rather than by sea to Rotterdam & then road to the UK

The Pfizer/BionTech vaccine is being produced at their facilities in Belgium and the first doses were shipped from there to the UK via Eurotunnel on Thursday.
There is an awful lot of vaccine production going on in Belgium, GSK has a massive vaccine research and production facility there.
Some other companies also have vaccine production facilities in Europe.

Re: Coronavirus

Good news from the Eastern European Front - only under 800 cases per day last day. Considering that schools have been open past two weeks, it's great. Caution with reopening, they seem to be making baby steps. Looks like I can think about brief Xmas. The infection is moving to previously less affected areas, with the same logic as here - from Romandie to German parts. Irrespectively of CZ's strict mask wearing and strict CZ lockdown, curfew, etc.

Family is practicing music. Yo.

There is a US-UK post-Brexit Air Services Agreement in place. The Brits did come out with the short end of the stick, but that’s another topic.

Re: Coronavirus

Hi forum

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a little info. Probably I am just having trouble with searching in French, but I cannot find any option to get tested for coronavirus without symptoms:

Are there any facilities that test without symptoms? (the only one i found was a drive-through facility but i dont have a car )

I want to go to Germany to see my mother for Christmas and she has respiratory issues, so I would ideally want to get tested before I go (I am taking the train). I would be happy with a fast test at least and ideally something that is not incredibly expensive, but I mean health first.

In any case, I would be super happy for any recommendation!

https://www.globaldata.com/us-uk-ger...d-19-vaccines/

Vaccine developers are selecting contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs) close to home for their COVID-19 vaccine, as the US, UK and Germany are the most popular supplier locations, says GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

Pfizer’s vaccine factory in Puurs, Belgium is producing the COVID-19 virus for the UK and will be dispatched to the UK by lorry and plane as soon as it is ready.

Re: Coronavirus

Does anyone know which vaccine is most likely to be distributed here in CH at some point? (I guess I haven't been keeping up with vaccine news too much in the past few weeks).

I was on the phone with my best friend in the US yesterday, who is in med school, and she told me that she would never take the Astra Zeneca vaccine due to reports of it having very nasty side effects on the central nervous system but that she would be fine with taking the Pfizer vaccine.

(Just a side note... She also told me that her daughter's best friend, who is 20 years old, had tested positive for the virus a month ago and had to be hospitalized for it and put on a ventilator despite otherwise being a perfectly healthy 20 year old. ).

Visp is a lot closer than Belgium.

Rail service from Visp to every (standard guage) station in the country. 12 hours maximum.
