Airlines will likely go bankrupt, which is fairly common as Airlines have historically destroyed shareholders capital since 1908
And not only them. Tourism will be hit as hard too.

Im talking about private sellers of things like antiseptic lotions etc. On ricardo and tutti and amazon with really crazy prices.
These are the real parasites
Ah, you meant those?
Only some rather insignificant profiteers.....

The thing is many countries ceased to produce basic pharma/hygiene stuff because they import almost everything and now they're screwed and at the mercy of (big) foreign companies who'll put their people first. Ta-dah....if anything, maybe this crisis will be a wake-up call in some regards. I hope some people will learn from it.

Re: Coronavirus

Medical researchers have been doing extra hours, some interesting information on the people infected by the virus. The data comprises people that ended up in an intensive care unit, with mechanical ventilation support or died.

https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2002032
  1. median age 47 YO
  2. 41.9% female (it prefers men )
  3. 43.8% of people with fever at admission time and 88.7% developed fever during the time in the hospital
  4. Only 4.8% had nasal congestion (this is curious, ending in intensive care and no mucus) If you have a runny nose, it's time to...
  5. The worst thing to have before coronavirus is high blood pressure.

That's interesting as all the data I've seen so far has suggested that it affects older people much more and I would have thought a median would have been around fifty or higher.

As it's 47, there's a lot of younger people than that who also got very ill or died.

Re: Coronavirus

All the COVID-19 data you could ever want...

An acquaintance of mine has started sourcing large quantities of masks and hand disinfectant from Turkey, certified medical use stuff. It does not look like he plans to sell the stuff at cost plus a small profit margin, he is basically going for the highest bidder. Disgusting. Meanwhile, hospitals are having to hide things because people are stealing them...

I didn't read the whole report. Does the virus actually prefer men? or is there just a correlation of more men ending up in ICU?

You didn't have to read the whole document. Just my second sentence " The data comprises people that ended up in an intensive care unit, with mechanical ventilation support or died."

Re: Coronavirus

What is interesting is the disparity between death rates of suspected cases rather than confirmed cases.

This appears to show that those who think this is just like a 'normal' flu are so wrong.

In suspected cases, without a confirmation test (and where theoretically, the patient could just have a bad cold), the death rate is 1.7% women and 2.8% men.

In confirmed cases, the death rate is 2.8% women and 5% men which is quite sobering.

One of the things I had read was that most of these numbers came from china - and there almost 50% of men smoke while only 5% of women smoke (at least that was the article I was reading.. and from my memory).

So it seems abit too early to say it prefers men or women - as those who are smokers may weaken the respiratory system. Correlation does not equal causation.

And I bet.... when it hits one of those squirreling hamsters when they should have surgery or treatment and staff can't perform due to lack of materials.... they will be yelling and complaining the loudest, yet will be the ones responsible for the shortage in the first place.

Actually, witnessed..... at OH's workplace they installed a big hand sanitizer dispenser.... only some members of staff then filled their bottles with it🤬🤬🤬

I actually am one of the ppl at risk..... severe asthma and chronic autoimmune disease , yet I haven't purchased masks (which don't help a otherwise healthy person) nor sanitizer etc. There are ppl on immunesuppressant meds who'd need that and can't get it anymore due to panicking twats!

As former nursing staff I am really angry at the egotistic behaviour of ppl, and frankly, I really hope that hamstering such goods will bite those hamsters ass really hard in scenarios like above!!

I fixed my quote but I think my post is still valid.

There was a harrowing account in one of the red-tops of the suffering of a U.K. 25 (or 23) year old teacher who got the virus back in November in
Wuhan.

That's going to put an extra burden on the health system here in Switzerland then.

(waiting for the groans from St1lemans and Papa Goose....)

I am one of the people at high risk too (immunsuppressed due to meds plus two different chronic autoimmune diseases) and I haven’t bought masks or extra stuff either. I have the small bottle of sanitiser that I keep in my bag all the time along with antibacterial wipes and the bottle I keep at home to refill it.
I am just carrying in with my normal routine of regular hand washing and cleaning. I see no reason to go into panic mode just yet.
