Our health care workers and anyone else who needs medical treatment will unfortunately also suffer because of it.

| | Re: Coronavirus | Quote: | | | | | There is no predominant self responsibility in this society anymore... | | | | | I think there’s plenty of self responsibility when you define it as an “I’m responsible for me so I’ll do what I want” ethos and not nearly enough concern or interest in what one’s actions or lack thereof mean when the negative impact to others is not immediately obvious or ever directly known.
Greater good and all that.

| | Re: Coronavirus | Quote: | | | | | You can only do home office if you normally work in an office.
A zoo-keeper probably couldn't do home office and nor could an airline pilot. | | | | | I work in an office filled with more equipment than could fit at home even if it was empty, plus others need access, though between April and August I did manage to bring a certain amount home and kept it in one of my garages for use as needed, but at the moment I will need much larger stuff that others also need to use, so not an option.

| | Re: Coronavirus | Quote: | | | | | I agree - but I believe now is the time we could actually do it. Shouldn't we be vaccinated by early Spring? At least the ones who are at risk? "We don't have time!"
No, that's not Kiefer Sutherland in 24 - It's the Zurich health director https://www.20min.ch/story/natalie-r...s-612798364296 | Quote: | | | | The Zurich health director Natalie Rickli calls on the Federal Council to tighten the measures on Friday.
Specifically, Rickli is calling for restaurants, culture, leisure and entertainment to be closed - before Christmas.
The health system is overloaded, said Rickli. Therefore, the canton of Zurich could not accept any ski accident. | | | | | | The following 4 users would like to thank MajorGrubert for this useful post: | |

Germany registered 952 Coronavirus deaths yesterday, the highest for the country since the pandemic began. Are they paying the price now for their much lauded response back in the spring?

So I am not sure what to make of it all.

| | Re: Coronavirus | Quote: | | | | | But how? Holidays bring people together, and it has already been determined that private gatherings are where individuals contract the virus the most. There will be a lot of movement around the cantons.
Best to bring the numbers down considerably before people expose themselves to family members... | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | By simply not following the rules. Imposing serious restrictions for Christmas will simply not work as families WILL gather together irrelevant of restrictions. People know that they can be banned from the markets, shopping areas and ski areas, but the government neither has the resources, nor the willingness to go around, count number of people around a Christmas table and arrest a few of them. It simply won't work. | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | Too late. | | | | | All this. If they wanted to bring the numbers down considerably in time for Christmas they should have put much stricter measures in place a few weeks ago.
Anything they do now is far too late, it’s like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.

Their hotels had too many bad reviews on Trip Advisor from the angry tourists who came to Swaziland for ski holidays.

You can hardly go sledging in Albispasshöhe anymore because it has no snow and the last time you could go ice-skating on Türlersee was in 2011.

I'm not sure you understand how rates are calculated.
Italy and Spain, both with sizeable populations (60 million and 47 million respectively, cf Germany's 84 million), both have death rates >1,000 per million population. The USA, with 332 million, has 937 deaths per million population. All three are well above Switzerland's 722 deaths/million, based on a population of <9 million.
