All the Germans I know have been going back and forth regularly since the start of Corona!

I doubt many Germans come here for shopping. It is just a very painful experience with a German paycheck.

If you're in Germany and the DIY / home improvement stores are closed and you need something because your sink broke, you're probably going to be tempted to just go over the border into CH to get it (if you live close to the border). Similarly, if you want to go to a restaurant or a mall, etc.
I remember when we were in lockdown last April, I really wanted some charcoal for our grill and was more than willing to pay twice as much for it online as I would have normally paid otherwise.
So even as ironic as it is... and maybe there is not a huge influx of Germans coming into CH for shopping etc. right now... I'm sure that some are.

| | Re: Coronavirus | Quote: | | | | | I have one colleague who has his family in London - he travels every weekend to see them and comes back to Zurich on Monday and straight into the office. It is infuriating ... I know he pays zero attention to lockdown rules while he does it. | | | | | UK covid cases, 2775 cases per 100,000
Switzerland covid cases, 4360 cases per 100,000
Whats the issue? |

They live and work here but like visiting family/friends back home regularly!

Venting on EF I guess is enough. | | | | | Risk takers get the comeuppance eventually. But if he's a crossborder commuter isn't he exempt from the quarantine rules?

I believe those are the number of cases per million not per 100,000.

Tony is actually right this time Rate can be per million, per 100,000, per 100 etc
A Million = 1,000,000
Tony's numbers are per 100,000. If you adjust them for per million they will become-
43,600 vs 27,750
Per million rate CH vs UK that I posted from a different source says-
Roughly 45,000 vs 28,000, so near to Tony's numbers

I assumed it was the last 14 days as that would seem more pertinent to the post he was replying to.

For the number of deaths I keep checking this graph below, which is comparing the actual number of deaths vs the expected range in green line. The expected range was derived from the collected data over several years and seems to be quite accurate for previous years (could be found in the link below). I assume that the difference between the actual and expected deaths from the graph show the real picture of deaths from the current pandemic in Switzerland.
The deaths numbers seem to move closer to the expected ones during the last couple of weeks, and this looks like a good sign... https://www.bfs.admin.ch/bfs/en/home...ses-death.html |

BAG/OFSP announced vaccination strategy today. Well sort of. Still awaiting swissmedic approvals. Plant to start in Jan. with the vulnerables. https://www.bag.admin.ch/bag/en/home...7-12-2020.html
Main points:
-free of charge
-not mandatory
-cantons responsible for implementation
-vulnerables should be vaccinated first
Editing to add, it specifies the following, in the following order, as first priority (disclaimer, my quick translation):
-vulnerable persons (except pregnant women)
-health care workers in contact with patients and personnel accompanying vulnerable people
-members of the same household of vulnerable people
-persons resident in a communal institution and their personnel (e.g. for handicap persons)
-all the other adults who would like to get vaccinated
(children and ados are not part of the target groups for vaccination)

Imagine how numbers like this would have sounded only two months ago. The stubborn number of deaths is awful, nothing like the relatively quick decline we had seen in April.
