yes, viruses not conscious. they are not more conscious than and computer program. basically, virus can be treated as a small computer with a specific program with limited capabilities. you just cant push in all the "features" to one virus
we dont know anything about new strain but usually, more contagious means less severity. that was my point
Yet again, this is rubbish, the two are not linked. Ebola has an R of about 2 and a fatality rate of 50%. From the human point of view all that saves us is that with that fatality rate even people like you can see the point in severe containment measures.

As it currently looks, the UK mutation is more infectious than other versions but seems to have a similar severity rate.

Shops had huge and packed lines outside yesterday, not sure if this anti-covid measure isn't counterproductive.
It does make it a more bearable to wear a kitch xmas mask, but I haven't had so many people breathing on my neck for ages.

It was no worse than any other Saturday just before Christmas.
The only difference here was that they had security at the store entrances making sure people sanitised their hands and respected the maximum numbers.
I am thinking that the federal council deliberately waited until Tuesday to impose the reduced numbers in shops so that people could get their shopping out of the way before the last minute but I might be crediting them with more intelligence than they actually posses based on their performance up to now..

If you had provided some factual information like I had asked you, maybe you wouldn't come across as unconstructive as you do.

I'm still trying to get use to having to pay close attention to those "bitte eintretten" signs at the entrances again. Yesterday, I walked into our local Denner and suddenly stopped dead in my tracks when I realized that I was accidentally beginning to walk past a red light that said "STOP."

I think a lot of people are also beginning to stock up for the holidays, and also because the stores will be closed for three days in a row at the end of the week -- from Friday, Dec. 25 through Sunday Dec. 27.

I wrote factual, not actual. And my question was in relation to your claim that faster spread = less dangerous. And your arrogant answer was "that's how it works". Troll.

Oh right, we stop the spread by vaccinating those most likely to already be isolating. Those most likely to be socialising we leave to the end.

It should be health workers first, like those giving the vaccines, that need to come first. Then frontline workers, bus drivers; grocery store workers; pharmacy workers; etc, next. Then students and those unable to work from home, then everyone else.

You need to protect your soldiers first, any army general knows that. and then protect the supply lines. That’s how a war is won.

I am in the at risk group, I’m willing to go last.
Given that you can virtually eliminate deaths by focussing on those of pensionable age and the most severe underlying conditions I don't think that's the way to go. Especially given that so many infections are passed on within private residences.

If we managed to get old people to behave like you great - but too many aren't.

On Andrew Marr this morning, Matt Hancock said he found out about the new strain last Friday - but the WHO knew about it from last September !?!?!?

The Netherlands will now stop all flights to England, not sure if all of the UK. Apparently trips by car/chunnel/boat are still possible.

That’s the same strain? There was some talk about another strain early in the autumn, but I did not think these were the same???

There was the strain discovered in Spain back at the end of the summer, maybe he was referring to this one. Maybe it’s the same or very similar?

Luckily my boss is now understanding of my situation despite himself and others regularly going in...I am more thinking of the many out there who are pressured to go in by less than understanding bosses.

Re: Coronavirus

Depending on the web-site you use there are four to eight ‘main’ strains which have numerous sub-strains. As this one spreads more quickly it has a spike-up on the other strains.

Too late though, and a little pointless. This strain will already be out and about in Europe, and places in Europe will have their own extra infectious strains, as yet to be discovered/announced.

I don't think it's pointless. If there is a concentrated # of cases with that strain in that part of the UK right now, I think it's best to close it off. You can't just let this thing run rampant, unchecked, without doing something to try to control its spread to whatever extent possible.
