Who is the "they" and what's your source for that? The statement on Saturday said that the government was officially informed only on Friday afternoon. Maybe there were labs noticing a change at the start of the week but this didn't filter through for some days. Presumably they have to consolidate data and be sure that the new strain wasn't just a blip.

Selfish idiots ... so many people unable to see their families this year & these knobheads can't take one year off of skiing.

BAG will be soon seeing how dumb it was not to close the ski lifts universally now. Leaving it up to the cantons means some will close and everyone else will crowd into the ones stupid enough to stay open.

It writes for all foreigners.
Would that mean that foreigners with a Swiss permit need to go into quarantine but the Swiss not?

Do you think it is for tourism or to get the numbers in, when most people will have 2wks off here anyways?

As I've previously mentioned, the locals will probably keep the smaller resorts afloat, but the mega resorts of Zermatt, Verbier, Wengen etc need foreigners to make them viable.

Another case of closing the stable door after the horse has bolted. I wouldn't be surprised if we soon find out that this new mutation isn't actually that bad.

I would love to keep the local one afloat. When there is snow.

What are the tourists going to do if there isn't enough snow? Shopping? I cannot see people going for hikes every day.

Absolutely, the trick is not identifying a new mutation but determining if it is a dangerous variation..

According to the British Medical Journal

Maybe it's changed in the interim but it now refers to all passengers on some 90 identified flights. No mention of nationality.

Well this time they actually acted as fast as anyone could reasonably expect. and even if the variant is here this will still slow the spread and win some time for vaccinations. Even with a R of about 3 instead of about 2 it takes a while for the case numbers to build up if you're starting from only 1 or 2.

...despite the fact the increased infectiousness has now been confirmed by a number of sources. Usual blinkered view from you.

Or are you even referring to the complete nonsense vladest is trying to propogate that a mutation that makes the virus more infectious must make it less dangerous?
