Doesn't help much unfortunately that Switzerland tries to contain Covid 19 when Sweden e.g. does absolutely nothing. They have happily decided to go ahead with their local Eurovision Song contest today with expected 50'000 to 60'000 spectators in an indoor arena.

I just canceled a business trip up there for next week. Not for fear of the disease but for fear of getting stuck up there. The country is going to colaps within days as they have no where near the infrastructure required to handle a pandemic.

This is my last post. My posts have been edited by people that have no medical background, training or experience just to control information that is shared by people on the field.
I will leave this region on an unpaid leave since this pandemic is already infecting a lot of medical staff.
Wish everyone all the best.
If you are a medical doctor, in accordance with your Hippocratic Oath, how can you consider leaving?

Apparently Wales has opened it's first drive through Coronavirus test centre in Rossett, near
Wrexham where according to the BBC article, patients get tested without even leaving their cars.
Although patients will have to be referred to the test centre before taking advantage of it.

Well, it takes getingt used to this. I ran into two people I have not seen in about 7 years yesterday and we shook hands. It happened so quickly and automatically. We did not shake hands when we parted, I guess we all realized during our chat. But none of us mentioned it.

You say you are a medical doctor. And you are now leaving because of Corona? Wow, that takes helping people to another level....

PS: no mod would edit your posts..... unless to remove names/email addresses etc according to data protection rules.
Doctors are not helping, they're doing their job. So it actually reveals work attitude. Surprised they talk unpaid leave, I'd expect a dizzy person (or probably a troll) to enter complaint-section about not having seen the part in the contract where it said they actually have to work for the money and where to sue. I mean the contract says "be a doctor, get x-K-franks a year for it. It's this thing about "being" and "doing" again.

Re: Coronavirus

In light of yesterday's news briefing, if you happen to be nursing someone at home who you suspect to have coronavirus, but who hasn't been tested because the test isn't available:
1. are we still supposed to phone to let people know that we have a suspected case?
2. at what point / with which specific symptoms, should we request that a patient is hospitalised?

Seems patients in Switzerland with mild symptoms will not be tested anymore (no capacity) ...

Medical certificate after five days...
Thanks for the translation. I get it and I don't, if that makes sense. Mild symptoms, stay home but no test at any point unless it gets severe? How are you to know if you have a minor cold, which probably isn't going to kill anyone, or the very contagious Covid19? How does CH have any clue in the long run how many people were infected? Surely that's relevant info.

There are some other conflicts with some of the policies. Swiss law says that companies listed on the stock exchange have to hold general assemblies. But right now assemblies of more than 150 people are banned. What's a company to do?

At the same time the Germans continue with full soccer stadiums and the Swedes will hold Eurovision.

As for 5 days before getting a work certificate, my work contract says 3 days. Does this temporary "suggestion" supercede my contract if I get sick or am quarantined?

We´re still preparing the GV/AG at work and have no clue if it can take place. Legal is working on finding out what to do if it cannot take place.

Wondering about the sick note as well. Company is reluctant to allow home office work to start with and saying I´m staying home because...... may cause issues....

Meanwhile Spain's El Comercio & El Norte de Castilla asks the question -

Did Asterix and Obelix confront the Coronavirus in Italy back in 2017 ?

El Norte de Castilla - Did the 2017 Asterix and Obelix comic predict the coronavirus in Italy ?

El Comercio - Have Astérix and Obélix already faced the Coronavirus in Italy back in 2017

I've only had flu 3 times, but the last time I was in bed for 5 days asleep for most of the time. We even had a roofer replacing the ridge tiles above my bedroom and I slept through it. So...
How can someone living alone, or with other people in isolation, get a work certificate to their work place? Is it all done by email?
How does the doctor know what to put on the certificate if no tests have been made? Will they just pur 'suspected COVID-19'?

I don't see how this approach is going to pan out.

I dunno for other employers. But here we'd just hand in the certificate later, whenever we pick it up. There's going to be a lot of "suspected covid" i think, if the Swiss are not gonna test and we're not supposed to go to the doctor.

I feel for those with less than understanding employers.

i assume you contact your GP, or call the hospital? :

" What do you have to do if you have been in contact with someone infected with the new coronavirus?

If you have been in close contact (closer than two metres for more than 15 minutes) with someone infected with the new coronavirus, you should immediately phone a doctor or hospital. Then the cantonal authorities will assess your case and decide whether you have to be put in quarantine"

again good questions... i think it is best to contact your local GP, or your HR at work...many questions indeed...

Reads to me like a capitulation and acknowledgement that this virus will stick with us like the flu. We're just at the start in Switzerland and already lost. Thinking that people will voluntarily quarantine themselves in an efficient way is an illusion, all it takes is one infected youngster sitting in the bus next to an elderly person on the way to her carecenter to unleash another shitstorm. I'm amazed how little prepared we are, was all we did with China just watch it and think "nah, not our problem" incompetent shit.

It is too late to start imposing any efficient measures, me thinks. It would have to have happened cca 10 days ago, 2 wks ago. The distribution now within the polulation is too high now, all people now can try is to delay, to not compromise the health care workers (and screeners) available. They themselves need to be tested preventatively and I doubt it is happening.

It is the vulnerable people now that need to stay put and isolate, not take visits nor mingle outside.

This 2-3m distance pictogram that got out yesterday.. Virus in China have infected whole buildings, neighborhoods, also via canalisation, money, post. Probably aircon?

Buses in CZ and subways, trains now have an ozone treatment (plus an aggressive sanitizing) each time they empty at the end of the route. All stations the conductors open all doors. I am teaching with all windows open and ask students to wash hands as we start and finish. Tell them to go to bed at 9pm. But I don't think we can do more now, schools stay open.

Re: Coronavirus

I think WHO has bigly underplayed the problem in January and February. Watching the vids of China massacring the people who signalled 1st the problem or undereporting and hearing WHO applauding Chinese leadership for dealing with the spread...

This has probably been posted here, in case not (FR)

The sick note/certificate doesn't specify what illness is involved; a doctor can record anything they feel relevant in the patient's file and doesn't need any absolute proof of the cause of symptoms.
