Not funny at all. From the original article in 20 Minuten

The community feels abandoned by the federation and the canton.
Not sure what they wanted the canton and the federation to do though?

Stick a post-it note to the hotel door.

Have no idea either.

Probably to bring in security forces or whatever.

This is incredibly irresponsible. Sure, they came before the variant restrictions were put in place but you donít sneak out like a thief in the night when they know the rules change frequently. Since the hotels know their names and contact information I wonder how many will be asked to provide it to the Swiss authorities for whatever follow-up and fines they want to pursue.
Good luck with enforcing that.

And thatís the problem. All bark and no bite and therefore no sense of responsibility in these folk.

Still would be possible to put on a ban list to re-enter Switzerland (easier to check if coming by plane, less so other means) and send a fine to their registered address. Whether or not they pay, if their passport is ever checked when in Switzerland it would pop up and make things interesting.

No it isn't. The 10 day quarantine is the statutory time, but if you are not staying 10 days you quarantine for the time you are here.
They have not broken any laws, they were not obliged to stay 10 days minimum in CH.

Donít know if itís true, but according to The Local While return flights were again allowed to fly from Switzerland to the UK on December 24th, anyone currently in quarantine needs to obtain permission from Swiss health authorities to break quarantine in order to fly.

If you are leaving to return back to the UK, you can do so legitimately and not sneak out under the cover of darkness and fog. I stand by my statement

I had also assumed that it was possible to leave whenever you wished, but also read that special permission and safety criteria had been put into place for the repatriation flights allowing people to break quarantine under strict guidelines, which does rather bear out your statement. I would be very interested to know what the rules are.

Well, except for the fact that the airlines havenít actually reinstated their UK flights yet. At least out of Geneva where flights ate all showing cancelled up to at least tomorrow.

Me too. I gave an admittedly brief look at the BAG site but couldnít find anything definitive on it.

That is also part of the broader issue that even those of us who live here cannot figure out the rules so how can one expect tourists to when they likely donít even know where to look for an authoritative source!!

I would imagine if this is the case for flying it would apply to any means of transport out when breaking quarantine but would be useful if it was more specific

Except for the fact.....there were 3 Geneva to UK flights today, and 3 from Zurich.

Re: Coronavirus

Judging from my canton, the reported number today is going to be low. Before anyone gets too excited take a look at the number of tests. Around here at least it's been near impossible to get one the last 3 days.

Edit - basically confirmed by Berset. From the Tagi...:

Nach den Festtagen sei es schwierig, die aktuelle Situation zu beurteilen, erklšrt Berset. ęEs gibt VerzŲgerungen bei den Meldungen und wir haben deutlich weniger Tests als vorher.Ľ

Re: Coronavirus

Hey there -

Need some advice...

My husband and I have been cooped up since February & dearly miss good times with friends. We had a few over during the summertime that we trusted... now since Autumn, there has been no good times and well, we just feel lonely.

We decided to invite two dear friends of ours (married couple) for NYE, since we know they have been living their lives the same as us, and we felt we could take one small risk during the holidays. On the weekend of the 19th, he started to experience COVID-19 symptoms (achy, tired, cough) and went for a test...luckily his results were negative. However, he is still coughing and it is unusual for him as he is hardly ever sick.

I worry because I know that Covid tests aren't always fool proof. Besides the dry cough, he doesn't have any other symptoms. What do you think? Thanks a lot!

In your case Iīd be hesitant. How bad that may be as you probably looked forward to finally having a nice evening again with friends.

What kind of test did he do?

Maybe he should have another test - for his own good, or talk to his doctor. But Iíd also be reluctant - youíre high risk, no?
