How can someone living alone, or with other people in isolation, get a work certificate to their work place? Is it all done by email?
How does the doctor know what to put on the certificate if no tests have been made? Will they just pur 'suspected COVID-19'?

I don't see how this approach is going to pan out.
Email, fax, regular post. Phone lines will be busy, I think.

The sick note/certificate doesn't specify what illness is involved; a doctor can record anything they feel relevant in the patient's file and doesn't need any absolute proof of the cause of symptoms.
Thanks.
I've never got a doctor's cert for anyone so am unsure how it works and if I can get one on my OH's behalf if he became ill, particularly as we don't have the same doctor.

Re: Coronavirus

One of the old Ladies who came for the Ye Olde Folkes lunch here on Thursday, had forgotten her stick at home when she was picked up from home. She was struggling so I lent her one of my mum's old sticks and she was worried about how she would get it back to me. I told her not to worry, I would pick it up when all this coronavirus thing is over. Oh no, she said, come soon and visit me - I am not afraid of coronavirus- but it is the loniless that kills me every day.

If you have a regular doctor that you have good contact with then they will send the certificate by mail to you

That's an emotional stab in the heart. Does she have contact via phone with people as well?

she lives with her son and family- but they are out all day. Isolated farm. She would be much better in a care home- but it is very expensive and inheritance would melt in the sun (melts my heart for sure).

I am sure we can adopt a few grandmothers on EF. She can run a FR-EN convo thread. This notion of inheritance she ought to forget, though. If she feels lonely then nobody deserves her inheritance.

Re: Coronavirus

my thoughts entirely- but many elderly folk are in that position here.

Since moving here, I've had people in tears because family were forcing them out of home and into care home- and now becoming increasingly aware that it happens the other way round too. But for another thread perhaps. Fact is, this old lady has lived through it all, and now in her 90s- she isn't afraid of any illness- but of loneliness.

Surely inheritance is about what is left over & money not needed during the lifetime of the person, not trying to get your hands on money your mother needs to spend in her old age.

I know. Pretty cash oriented motives for affection

But then the oposite is also true here, start an EF Oldies Thread, bring all your buddies there, older people's English is fab in Switzerland! Organize board games event...hiking, a book club. We will come. Grandpas welcome, of course. We could go fishing with them or play...whatsit. That weird ball rolling game.

(When it is safe! Gotta add a disclaimer.)

One would hope. Indeed expect.

But I have unfortunately seen too many examples of people believing that they are entitled to their parent's assets, guilting the parents into sacrifices to preserve 'their' inheritance. Ugly does not even begin to describe this phenomenon.

And speaking of ugly, now back to discussing the virus...

what do we do if/when all intensive care units will be full? Are we going to fight who gets the last available bed in hospital? is it given to one who pays most or simply first come first served? Or am I missing something on this article?
If it all runs out of hand we'll be going into worst case scenario and Triage will be introduced, the system that has been in use for centuries to decide who gets help and who doesn't simply based on your statistical changes.

Imagine a big tent upfront of the hospital with one entry and a few exits.

Exit 1: You'll be treated since we think you have good chance and we have an open spot.
Exit 2: Go home and hope for the best.
Exit 3: Sorry, here are some painkillers and you can die over there.
