More accurate and up-to-date info than you will ever find on EF. Worth subscribing to... | | | | | That dude makes sense, as good a layman as you can get I guess. I still prefer expert podcasts.
The writing on the projector is hilarious and reminds me so much of my university times.

This thread is peppered with people being groaned for stating facts, and others being thanked for projecting their somewhat highly strung emotions. | | | | | It would indeed be nice if there was a separate Coronavirus thread where people could express their concerns about a pandemic and have an intelligent conversation about it without having to deal with a few select people constantly trying to accuse them of being "hysterical" and projecting their "high strung emotions."

And if we all would try not to take the bait all the time, this would be a much shorter thread.

corona is concerning? indeed. you want to discuss level of concern? deep concern, more deep concern, deepest concern? | | | | | It will quickly turn into "I'm more concerned than you", "your concern is just not underpinned enough, you peasant", "where is the proof for your concern, link please" and "the basis of your concern is simply not scientific enough" all the way to "stop posting your pathetic concerns, they don't match mine so shut up". I covered it, so let's not (have an other thread on this).

Below a study that German Covid popstar Drosten just referred to in his podcast. It seems to find that the South African variant is potentially resistant to anti-bodies.
Drosten speculates that this could be sign of "escape" amid a relatively immune population (areas of RSA close to herd immunity, >50% with antibodies). If I understood correctly, his point is that sooner or later the virus will adapt to a more immune population, just a matter of time. Likely to be imported from populations with already relatively high immunity without new strains being detected. The more important that wide parts of the population receive some form of immunity as soon as possble, and he seemed to support spreading time between vaccine shots. Clearly he argues that immunity is not black/white, but there are degrees. https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...12.31.425021v1 | This user would like to thank komsomolez for this useful post:

| | Re: Coronavirus | Quote: | | | | | I can only think that their [Swiss Government] current thinking is purely based on finances and not people losing their lives? | | | | | Most probably. In fact, given the age of people who mostly die, this virus is a blessing for the economy in the long-term, so they take maximum advantage of it.

I remember in Spring there were plenty of widely cited non-peer-reviewed publications by popstars saying that we are on the verge of herd immunity, where are they now?

That's why I wrote "seems to find" and "speculates". Also this here is no argument for herd immunization by spread, but is to say that higher degree of immunization will naturally force the virus to adapt.

I was afraid that after vaccination this madness will end, but no, show must go on | | | | | It is quite likely this virus is going to be endemic, i.e. become something like influenza with a high degree of underlying partial immunity and ever evolving virus strains to which vaccines will have to be adopted. That's it, no need to exaggerate.

That doesn't mean he's not more than qualified to do what he's doing on YT.
I've also been watching him since January '20. I also like the Medcram channel on YouTube. In fact both channels did a collaboration yesterday as follows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LXZTU9UbSc | The following 2 users would like to thank magyir for this useful post:
