One can only hope that Italy is not some sort of forecast of what is here yet to come. Damn those numbers keep blasting.
No reason for the infection rate in Italy to be significantly different than anywhere else. I assume, surprisingly, they are doing a good job of testing and reporting.

I have a strong suspicion that the US numbers are far below reality, whether due to incompetence or censoring I have no idea.

Even the sneezing recommendations don't make much sense. Sneeze into your elbow. Don't shake hands, do an elbow bump. Ooookay. Or, sneeze into a tissue - which still gets the germs on your hands - and toss the tissue but go ahead and touch the door handle, etc.
Wearing my golf gloves when using public transport 😀

It was very quiet at the airport yesterday. Lufthansa is advertising on Instagram that it is safe to fly, seems a lot of people are postponing trips (still, the flight was packed yesterday)

Meanwhile, still a lot of people not covering their mouths while coughing on public transport. I really don't understand.
Because most people aren't paranoid.

I thought it was just common decency to cover your mouth when you cough in public.

Even more decent when there's a nasty virus going around.

Alas, it's only a minor virus going around.

I had to sign in at the front desk at physio yesterday for the first time (it's in a retirement home). I had to provide name, address, phone number, and the time I arrived and departed. That way if there's any problems they can get in touch with me.

Give the Lombardia government a call and tell them they are all wrong about all of this and that they must be missing out on some other disease which forces them to create 200 hospital beds extra per day.

Damn what are they thinking, stupid bunch of idiots, good thing we have the smart you who knows it all.

I was wondering when this would start occurring, (not running out) but the likelihood of people stealing hand sanitizer in public places.

I was at Coop in Dietikon today, in the afternoon, place was like a circus or TV Christmas commercial. Stopped in the restroom and a guy was practically bathing himself in the available hand sanitizer. Splashing all over his face, hands, lower arms, as well as trying to splash the excess off his hands all over the sink faucet handle and door handle.

I gave him quick glance and he looked back at me like he knew he was acting crazy but was not taking any chances.

I was just waiting for him to rip the bottle off the wall.

We are not so sure about the coronavirus yet, not until it's over. But I experienced the SARS situation in my teenage years, even I'm not old and won't die from it, there might be long-term sequelae. Maybe treatments are better now, but I do not want to risk it.

"Impairment of lung diffusing capacity persisted in 24% of SARS survivors; their exercise capacity and health status were markedly lower than the general population at 1 year after illness onset."

But then SARS was a long time ago, how is the impact now after such a long time?

Seems patients in Switzerland with mild symptoms will not be tested anymore (no capacity)
....
So they are assuming people will be self disciplined enough to self isolate with a mild cough and no diagnosis? So no more contact tracing and official quarantine? What about reports that people are still shedding virus weeks after they stop showing symptoms? Are we going to assume people are just going to stay home for a few days after recovering from a cough and not go to work or public places? We already have people coughing all over. This directive is to free up resources but it's just allowing for quicker spread. And how is it that most other countries can allow for widespread testing, but Switzerland has reached capacity at under 4k?!

Probably they are fine by now, but I know from watching a lot of interviews, many of these survivors lose their jobs because they were unable to work for months/year, and huge emotional impact from the quarantine...

And to Tom, it is not okay, to accuse people being paranoid, when we are living on the same planet, in the same environment, to have a little bit of expectations on each other of not putting other people's life at risk. I'm not asking people to clear the pasta shelves. Just simple decency of covering the mouth when coughing.

An Italian union of medical employees is proposing a triage system including a set age limit above which people will not be submitted to the IC anymore due to medical system being more than overrun.
