| | Re: Coronavirus | Quote: | | | | | A family member died just a few days after Christmas. He was unconscious due to sedatives for almost 3 weeks so the pipe delivering oxygen directly to his trachea was not rejected. If there was a time to say goodbye, it was before the fever took away his mind.....like 3 weeks before dying. So don't wait until people is in the hospital in induced coma to find the will to say I love you or something like that. | | | | | True... it is different for everyone. I know in most covid cases, they are already gone before they are actually gone. But they must be aware for some time before while still being alone and isolated. I don't know about you, but I would not like to go like this, even though I understand the reasons for it. Which is why we need to get these cases down and why there should be measures to ensure that they do...
My mom was in and out of consciousness when she passed of cancer in the hospital, but I know she very much knew my father and I were there and it was of comfort to her. We were able to have last conversations etc..

| | Re: Coronavirus | Quote: | | | | | I think the only possibly safe way for anyone to visit their dying loved one in a COVID ICU ward is if they were also wearing hazmat suits. I'm not sure how easily available those are. | | | | | All the ICUs in Czech Rep. have glass wall or door for this exact reason, so you can see your family member and they see you, if they are conscious, without you entering the ICU. But Covidariums there are now built in other hospital areas and whole departments separated. I saw staff holding tablets/cells with Skype to patients and family were behind the safe doors. There are currently 7100 people hospitalized for Covid in CZ, 12500 deaths.

| | Re: Coronavirus | Quote: | | | | | 1 hour? Poor guy must be drained I would be disappointed with you, if during your long conversation you did not invite him to EF for valuable insight on Corona related stuff | | | | | Actually, it was probably less than hour, but it felt like longer because he was doing most of the talking, and I had a raging headache at the time (and still do).
I'm getting a COVID test in a few hours. My son has a nasty cold right now that he brought home from school (his symptoms began on Saturday/Sunday), and now I'm starting to show some signs of COVID.
Super.

| | Re: Coronavirus | Quote: | | | | | I am all for masks, but I don't really see the point of this. If adults - and even medical professionals - cannot wear marks correctly, how can we expect primary school children to do this?
Far better to vaccinate teachers... | | | | | Teachers should be vaccinated but that isn't the main problem here. School kids are acting as the conduit to transfer infections from one family to another and given there are now far fewer routes for infections to pass probably quite an important one (whatever might have been said about this months ago). The problem is going to get worse as it seems pretty clear the new mutations are more communicable amongst kids than the original.
I guess if we get a UK/Ireland rate of spread there will be no choice but to close the schools for a couple of weeks to break the chain. Do this early February when they mostly have a week off anyway and not too much schooling is lost. Just the whole country at once rather than staggered which is otherwise what happens with the ski weeks.

Thanks. I'll try to report my test result back later. I have no idea if my dr. is going to do a normal test or a rapid test today. I'm going to wear two-masks when I go in there.
