Happy Burns Night!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8l2m3_2Xjg

This will be me tonight as Master of Ceremony, delivering the toast to the Lassies,, the Selkirk Grace and, of course, the Address to the Haggis.

We celebrate the birth of THE great Scottish bard, Robert Burns, on 25th January 1759 and recite many of his wonderful and colourful poems. Wonder what my Swiss guests will think of the Haggis, as I usually get rude comments about it pre-tasting it, then they love it...with copious amounts of Whisky!

Sheep lungs, an essential ingredient of the haggis, are illegal in the States. Still, some manage: Building the Perfect Meal With Sheep Lungs and a Suitcase.

Yes. Haggis is a disgusting food. How you can go along with this barbaric habit escapes me! As a Scot you should feel ashamed.

Re: Happy Burns Night!

Happy Burns Night, I really miss those Haggis, neeps and fatties with whiskey sauce! Jumping on to this thread, perhaps someone could suggest a good source of Haggis in CH? There must be some out there instead of bringing tinned ones in the suitcase like last time!

Ever tried it?

What is barbaric about it? It used to be normal that almost any part of an animal was eaten.

And since when are you Scottish?

I also have a Burns Federation Certificate for Excellence in Recitation of Scottish Literature, so maybe by 11pm I'll be giving it laldy

Slāinte!

There are alternatives to the Haggis, but I am a sticker for traditions. As a starter, I made a saffron, chervil and crab meat tartlet with a duo of Scottish roast and smoked salmon, then the Haggis in Whisky sauce with neeps and tatties, Scottish Whisky Cheddar and Stilton, cranberries and pomegranate salad and finally a lovely Whisky and raspberry Cranachan Trifle I am quite proud of...I had to stop myself eating all the granola when I was baking it last night in the oven!

I hope they are free range haggis. I hate to see them in captivity. It's good to see them running over the glen, and swimming in the loch.

You sound like my ballet teacher. I always wanted to ask if anyone ever trips over their feet while doing all the swirling?

The dishes sound...exotic. Nothing like the tajin that's bubblin' on the stove.

Bummer, I used up my last pluck a few weeks ago, so no haggis tonight!
