Possibly private means simply that.. Private, none of our business, why do we need to know, why do they need to tell us?

Should it be a conversation starter? Would you treat somebody differently one way or the other?

I tend to know the orientation of close friends but people around me on the train, somebody near me in the office, the lady at the bus stop I chat to in the morning.. I have no idea and feel no need to ask, it's their business. I treat all of these people as equal, without having the need to check
.
I did not feel the need to check-into this thread since the first posts. And I will not again. Nor EF. Bye folks, was good knowing you and get on with your life in your own Worlds. My contribution over the years is clearly seen as something ab-normal.

But John_Hs post was really perfect (positively).
Please let me use your words as my departure! Thanks again.

I have read some logorrheic 'epistemologic" s%$#e from you, and I don't mind it and at times find it entertaining, but this here screams of so much self-entitled privilege and active discrimination, it really takes the cake!

If your contributions would have been seen as abnormal, we would not have had this latest discussion. I do read, like you, some comments that make me jump and trust me, this is a topic I feel very strongly about because it has affected my child, but quitting is not the solution.

If you feel strongly about something, you make your case, you accept that not everyone is going to agree with you or even get your point, because we all have different sets of values, education etc. ... you can even shrug your shoulders at some stage and say "whatever" and move on to do other things...but quitting EF? Why? Please, come back.

Itís not easy at all but with plenty of practice Elu should be fine.
Thanks for you wishes, it's gonna be fine. I'm in a one year course and it's almost exclusively learning for the test...
I get Vocabulary through EF, although I miss DB dearly in that regard.

I'm still looking for a language tandem btw, so if anyone is interested around Olten or Basel just let me know

ZuriRollt, I like the fact that you are on this forum, and have not seen you or your contribution as abnormal. You are one of a handful of people whose posts I always read.

Here we (in Switzerland) had something to be glad of, a step away from destructive behaviour, and for many, a cry of relief and jubilation was raised that the vote was a resounding YES, and now there's a way to counteract discrimination.

And then... the deterioration of this thread. I hear you that things in this thread have hurt and upset you (if I've got that right) and I agree with you that some posts here have made me feel physically ill.

I do not know whether posts that I have made here have been amongst those which caused you hurt. I'm not aware of having done so, but in case I have, inadvertently, please know that it has not been my intention to cause you pain, or push you away, or exclude you or disrespect you, in any way at all. If something I did felt like that to you, I'm truly sorry.

I'd be very glad if you stuck around in what's left of EF. We have managed to have the occasional thread (or part thereof) which didn't deteriorate into squabbling and offence, and I'm hoping we'll manage more of them.

You will be absolutely fine, at that level courses are all pretty much based around learning for the test. Knowing the test structure and how it works is key in passing the Cambridge exams especially at the high levels.

My son is taking it in Bern next month so I have been doing quite a lot of prep work with him. I don’t often get to do Proficiency or even Advanced for that matter as the First is usually enough for most people.
He only needs the First to get the credits for uni but he decided it would be stupid to settle for the easy option given that he’s a native English speaker.

I’m a little bit too far away from you but I can ask my friends in Basel.

Maybe Zurirollt was sick of being seen as a homosexual first and human being second, or having her personality defined by her sexuality. A perpetual victim who needed 'protection' by well meaning but Ill-advised people.

Actually, it never even occurred to me that she was.

Nor does it matter.

Same here on both counts.

I may be wrong but she's acting a bit like "She's the only gay in the village" and everyone else's opinions don't matter or are invalid.

I'm sure there are other gay people on the forum and for the rest of us, we've got (well I have at least), gay relatives and friends and work colleagues.

Was she seen as homosexuel by people here? I never saw her as anything other than Zurirollt, her sexual orientation never even crossed my mind. Why would it?

Perhaps not her personally, but the way the community has been talked about in general here. As something different, others.

Maybe some people trying to signal how woke they are have ended up focusing on people's sexuality instead of just viewing them as people, however well intentioned.

These are rather recent discussions, it wasn't even a "theme" until relatively recently.
