I think the idea was physical fitness in general, not necessarily to go and purchase a gym Abo.
Indeed, it was a well meant advice to get in a healthy mindset.

Yodel is great. They teach it here in our primary school.

But I do prefer their more folky live version: I was there! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zg9l-zy978k

People certainly can, they just don't make a career out of it.

I only found out about school doing it because there were familiar sounds coming out the shower. They don't make a big deal out of it, the kids did not even have a concert...Local conservatoire kids choir teaches it too. People yodel here quite a bit, ton of my colleagues in my symphonic choirs do, they are just quiet about it, keep it for bbqs, family parties and gatherings. I yodeled at a couple of Aug 1st events.

Completely agree, nor the right octave?
But the lyrics are not bad (listen carefully), especially at the beginning.

Odile, just seeing you write the word "Dales" brought me straight back in the Peak District! Dovedale etc., many happy family walks there, back in the days.
Moved to Stoke-on-Trent from London in the middle of winter. Living at the old hospital on Hartshill over Shelton Steel bar- thought I was going to die... then in Spring, we went to Dovedale- and it was so wonderful. Over the years, discovered all the Dales there, and the Roaches too - and I felt so at home. When we moved to Leicestershire and our girls were young- we spent so much time either in the Peaks (or North Norfolk) ...and later the Yorkshire Dales. When we first visited Malham Cove, it was so much like our Creux-du-Van <3

hahahaha. I wouldn't wanna ruin yer schtick, I am better at Puccini.

I like the tradition of yodel, though a tad more north.

There is no ‘one size fits all’ solution, what works for one person doesn’t necessarily work for another.
Sometimes a good pity party is all that is needed to turn the corner and get out the other side.
It wouldn’t be my choice but neither would the gym.
Oh goodness, we already established that in the man-bun thread.

Quote:
Not for me either- why go to a Gym when we have amazing woods, mountains, lakes, gorges (Dales) and so much more.

Are you next to Big René (Ralphy?)?
Yes, absolutely. Today will be another glorious day for hiking or skiing.

I can see the appeal of gym when the weather is horrible though.

@McTavge

Dancing classes? We have lots of dance schools in our side of Switzerland.

I'm going to disagree, working on your physical fitness is a 'one size fits all' solution; it may not solve all of your problems but it could only help, not hinder.

Well, it would increase my depression, doing sport thinking "am I really doing THAT bad that I think sport is better?"

To me gym is pretty specific it is not a cover all term for sport or physical activity and I’m pretty sure it’s the same for the majority of people.

Exactly, it is not the solution for everyone.

As I said and I will say again, there really isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ solution.

Dancing is an excellent idea. It’s a good way to get exercise and meet people all at the same time.

It definitely does not hurt to increase health, stamina and activity, physical attractiveness and self esteem. Trying to figure out why somebody's dumped us or wondering why we haven't got a partner, or potentially how to start mingling again can always come later. Humans are creatures of routine, I like focusing on the constructive and healthy routines.

I think you will not know unless you try. And once you try, you won't no longer think that you are doing so bad.
