Anyone ordered from Japanes auction sites via proxy (Jauce, FromJapan, etc)??

Some interesting stuff on JP auction sites. To overcome obvious language barrier, there are a few Japan-based sites which will buy on your behalf, receive, then forward on worldwide - at a cost, of course.

Eg Jauce.com, buyee.jp, and FromJapan.co.jp (which can proxy for Yahoo! JP Auctions and others).

Inbound CH customs/VAT is 7.7%, plus some fixed charges, ie nothing special about JP - right?

Any broker/proxy experiences to share?

Cheers,
auto

Well I did. Very often. With Buyee. My Japanese is decent (better than my English tbh) thus nothing problematic happened yet.

As for Buyee, the English site generally works the same as the Japanese one. I cannot think of anything too specific to share because it will be alright as long as you follow the instructions.

Before you put a bid, make sure you know the price and your budget very well, since net auction is always unsure and you don't want to regret when you see someone bought the same item with a much lower price. And remember you cannot cancel an order (it is actually possible, but not with Buyee).

I can write more if I know more specifically of what you'd like to know.

Thank you very much appcell for your response.

Regarding specifics
- Did you have items shipped to Switzerland by Buyee, and if so was the shipment trouble-free (esp with regards to correct paperwork)?

- Did you have to front the money prior to bidding, or were you billed after the auction (or sale) completed? Were the fees/charges as-stated and reasonable. If you transferred money to Buyee in order to cover an intended purchase, but which did not take place, were you able to get your money back in a reasonable time, and without too much cost overhead?

- Did you ever have fragile/damageable items shipped on by Buyee and if so, was their re-packaging appropriate and did the goods arrive undamaged?

Would be grateful for your insights; thanks again

No problem, auto. Regarding your questions:

1. Yes. The costs are: a) bidding cost, b) in-Japan delivery cost, c) packaging, d) international delivery cost. a is paid immediately after the deal's accepted, then b+c+d are paid when everything's delivered to you (from Japan to Switzerland). The trouble fee mostly depends on what you buy and how the seller send it to Buyee. For normal stuff, one in-Japan delivery costs 300-600 yen. Total delivery cost is ~33% of total payment.

2. As explained in 1, you pay after the deal's set. And the deal cannot be cancelled. Buyee can check the delivery for you to see if the item is same as description, but you have to pay a fee for this service. You cannot return/reject the item if you don't apply for this checking service.

3. Yes. Usually the seller's already packed them very well, and Buyee's re-packaging looks great. I think there're options for extra protection, but it definitely costs. I usually don't add too many layers for my stuff.

In general: If you have a direct payment method in Japan, I suggest you do the auction by yourself, then deliver everything to a delivery proxy like Tenso, and finally bring them home. Otherwise, the proxies work well. They just cost a lot.
