Got scammed of CHF300. What to do?

Hi all. After all these years I am finally scammed. To keep the story short, I transferred CHF300 to a person (CreditSuisse to PostFinance) as a pre-payment for a second hand item. The payment has been received, but the item never arrived. Our communication includes facebook (I guess the FB profile is fake), and whatsapp (I tried calling the whatsapp number, it always immediately goes to voice mail). I contacted CreditSuisse for help, they opened an investigation, and said that since the payment was legit, and the other party refused to give back the money, there was nothing else they could do, and suggested me to seek legal action.

what should I do? talk to a lawyer? go to police?

P/S: since then the facebook photo has been changed, so I think he/she is still out there scamming. I am normally not one who seeks revenge. I am fine with losing that 300. I just want to make sure the scam is stopped once and for all.

Grab all the info you have and go by the police, maybe you hear nothing maybe you get a letter in 3 months or 2 yrs that somebody has been arrested and if you want to join the case in an attempt to get your money back.

Quite probably, it was not the first scam of this individual....and will not be the last until stopped.

How long are you talking?

I've had it both ways, once had a wait for something I bought on EF. The seller assured me it was posted, nothing arrived, didn't hear from them for a while, asked again etc.. Then ooops, he'd had the package returned, he resent it and i got it a couple of days later. I could think that he was scamming me, never posted it etc.. but hey.

And me, well once I sold an item on Ricardo, I listed it and just forgot about it.. Somebody won it and paid directly using the my stored details.. I missed the email from Ricardo.. About a month later the buyer called me to check. Ooops. I refunded half the money to apologise.

OP - You're in a decent position to at least have the bank details.. Address too? Send a registered letter first giving 5 days to respond

When buying online always make sure you have a verifiable name and address that matches the bank account you're paying to.

What you could do is write to the sellers bank, asking them to pass the letter on to their client. Outline in the letter to the client he has scammed you and you will report this to the police for fraud and money laundering. This will have the bank quaking and they'll pass the letter on and likely close the account. Even if you don't get you money back you'll cause the scammer great inconvenience.

It has been about a month. Of course I gave the person the benefit of the doubt, but I have been ghosted on all channels after the money was sent.
