A Swiss song that unites

If Switzerland were to decide to stick their heads out of their windows at exactly the same time and sing a Swiss song in unison, what do you think it would be?

Re: A Swiss song that unites

McTavge yodelling his groups greatest hits.
I would have said Helene Fischer's 'Atemlos' but that's highly inappropriate under the circumstances, but I know one Swiss friend will likely be on his balcony playing Polo Hofer full blast. Personally, I'd go for Trauffer's 'Dr. Gipfel'. What the hell's going to happen to 'Donnschtig Jass'!!

Re: A Swiss song that unites

In the light of our common situation, there is no other song which hits the nail of the head better than "Süpervitamin" :

W. Nuss vo Bümpliz from Patent Ochsner seems to bring many Swiss I know to a standstill. Even those who are otherwise too cool to sing along will join in...

Re: A Swiss song that unites

Do you know where I could find a translated version of the text ?

Before I knew the title of the song, the chorus to me sounded like "we are from Bumpliz", kind of local anthem.

This translation translates w. Nuss to "venus" which is a little misleading.
Patent Ochsner refuse to discuss its meaning - what or who the subject of the song is remains a secret.

I'd say it's Alpenrose by Polo Hofer, Ewige Liebe by Mash or ....e Geschenke Tag (which still sends shivers up and down my spine)

Ewige Liebe was my first thought too. It's a bit... oomphless for this maybe? A power ballad without the power. Everyone knows it though!

E gschenkte Tag is gorgeous and a good fit for the mood I think 😊 I could see "Alls was bruuchsch" as another candidate.

You're brilliant! I think your choice is even better.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WapiT5LxQhY

Text (so you can sing along)
Alls was bruchsch uf der Wält

1. Ich kenn e junge Ma, vo dem chasch alle ha, (I know a young man who'll give you the shirt off his back)
er hät es grosses Huus und chunnt bi allem drus. (He has a large house und understands everything)
Ich ha de zuenem gesit: Weisch du e guete Rat, (I asked him if he had some good advice)
wies mir uf eusrer Wält chönnt schöner ha. (on how to make our world a bit nicer)

Refrain: Alls was bruchsch uf der Wält das isch Liebi! (All you need in this world is love)
Frohi Stunde und e guete Fründ. (enjoyable hours and a good friend)
Alls was brucht uf der Wält hesch du sälber, (all you need is what you already have)
tues verschänke und freu dich dra. (give it to others and be happy in doing so)

2. Ich kenn e alte Ma, mit lange wisse Haar, (I know an old man with long white hair)
er hät kei Hab und Guet, doch immer frohe Muet. (He doesn't own anything except for joyful courage)
Ich ha de zuenem gseit: Weisch du e guete Rat, (I asked him if he had some advice)
wies mir uf eusrer Wält chönnt schöner ha. (on how to make our world a bit nicer)

Refrain
Jo lo lo, jo lo lo, jo lo lo lo
Jo lo lo lo, jo lo lo lo.
Alls was brucht uf der Wält hesch du sälber,
tues verschänke und freu dich dra.

Not quite everyone.
There are around 35% non native German speakers living in the non German cantons and a fair number of those won’t know all those Swiss German songs.

I think it would be pretty tough to find a song that works for Switzerland as a whole to be honest.

Goodness, if those are the given conditions, then the only song that fits is "Happy Birthday"

Greuzi wohl Frau Stirnimaa. That's always a toe tapper! Otherwise an Alphorn and some yodeling. Although the latter is beautiful its not something one can do in unison.

How appropriate! I yodelled it this afternoon in our village inn. I translated the words into French before I sang it, everyone cried!

It's in English, but the lyrics are appropriate. Elvis - Suspicious Minds

'We're caught in a trap
I can't walk out
Because I love you too much baby'

Had a lunchtime trumpet recital of the Swiss National anthem from a neighbour from his balcony. All our other neighbours applauded.

Yep, that would be him.

I'd pick Ines Torelli's "Gigi vo Arosa" though.... It's not patriotic, but it makes you laugh.

Ah, sch.....I forgot about the French/Italian/Rumantsch speakers.
