I can‘t really help much - Last month I became “elderly”. Yeah, whatever.

But here’s something to think of - if people feel isolated, is there a way we can check on them. I don’t know....skype, face time, phone call even. I do worry about mental health during isolation - people can loose track of time and it makes you a little crazy.

Anyway, something to think on.
Sure, if people are willing. Some ideas here

I've contacted a few people to see whether we could do a podcast and address certain issues on a weekly basis; just so that we could function as a community and possibly alleviate some concerns and stave off our ennui. After all, we're in the same boat at the moment.

Unfortunately we are having to self isolate this week. OH went down with a head cold and mild flu symptoms on Saturday. I'm fine and he's on the mend working from home. Glad I shopped on Friday night so I'm organised for not going out.

Boredom is getting to me already though - the Basel weather is gorgeous at the moment, I overlook a park with a stream running through it and am only about 5 mins from the Rhein
Hope you're holding up, Cherub. Your post reminded me of this TV report, and I wondered whether this could be adapted for people who are self-isolating or in quarantine. As long as the groups are small, distance is kept, etc.

Alright party people, so far I've received personal answers from Aldi, Volg and the shopping center in Olten. They told me, that they were going to forward the email to either the board of directors or the proper entity dealing with such issues. From Coop, Landi and Migros I received an automated response with a ticket number. Lidl is still awol but let's see what I get tomorrow. Interestingly enough, Aldi managed to give me an automated answer, followed by a personal email. Good customer response time IMO.

wow, efficient, irrespective of the result, they have at least registered the suggestion and maybe can put it in practice for future emergency events- thanks again LIB, keep us updated...i always knew oltenites had persuasive ways!

Yeah, we're a different breed, mostly attributed to the close proximity of the nuclear plant.

One more offer to help the vulnerable & needy. Living in Ausserschwyz, have a car, and working from home for the time being. Can climb stairs.

Anywhere between Rheinfelden and Stein - happy to do some shopping, run errand or take the dog for a walk.

Also if anyone needs a temporary nanny in AG, BL, BS or possibly other Kanton, we can talk as I'm available.

Menthol ones are supposed to sooth the throat. (According to a 1950s American advertisment, or a Swiss one from last week).

Here the official answer from Coop:

Sehr geehrter Herr lost_inbroad

Re: EF Community Corona Helpline

"Here the official answer from Coop:

Dear lost_inbroad
Thank you for the message we received on March 17th, 2020 and for giving us the opportunity to comment.

Thanks for the suggestion. This is currently not planned, also in the sense of treating our customers equally. The most important thing is that everyone implements the recommendations of the BAG.

We have already implemented numerous measures in our stores:
We have informed and instructed our employees about consistent compliance with the basic hygiene measures.
In addition, all of our employees in the sales outlets have access to disinfectants. We have set up hand disinfectants for our customers in all stores.

We have stepped up daily cleaning, which also includes self-checkout counters, cash register terminals and shopping trolleys.

We have put up posters at our cash registers that indicate social distancing and the possibility of card payment. In addition, eye-catching distance lines are placed on the floor in front of the cash registers. We also inform our customers about in-store radio regarding social distancing in the point of sale. Protective screens are currently not planned.

We continuously check which other measures are reasonable and feasible.

Do you have any questions or need more information? You can reach us online at www.coop.ch/kontakt or by phone on 0848 888 444 (CHF 0.08 / min.) From Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Best regards

it's good they came back with a quick answer - didn't really refer to the elderly opening hours aside from "treating our customers equally"...lol how very swiss and neutral... but i guess it's good they are implementing somewhat the hygiene measures.
another thing we noticed here in SG since the virus is that our malls and shops have reduced opening hours (only 1-2 hrs less) this was to reduce staff exposure and also there has been a reduction in tourism. wonder if this will happen during this month lockdown in CH?

The Deafies salute you, COOP! (IRONY!)

The regular info printed on big posters we can read, of course.
But if they inform about something else via instore tannoy...we're up shit creek without a paddle! And that goes for all other shops, SBB etc too

Also if personnel starts to wear masks and refuses to lift them so that we could lipread......oh the joys of life on deaf row!!

Thanks for trying, although it is a bit confusing as Migros issued the following statement today (Google translated):

Plexiglass at checkouts

To protect the cash register staff in the Migros branches, the large distributor will be installing plexiglass panes at the cash registers in the next few days. In order to comply with the recommendations of “social distancing”, Migros also appeals to the solidarity of customers.

The protection of its employees is a top priority for Migros, wrote Migros spokesman Marcel Schlatter when asked by the Keystone-sda news agency. Because disinfectants are no longer available at the moment, the company started producing them in its own industry.

All 100,000 employees of the Migros Group have already been equipped with disinfectants. To this end, the hygiene guidelines of the Federal Office of Health would be strictly observed.

Compliance with these rules and regular, conventional surface cleaning would offer effective protection against transmission from person to person. "We also welcome it when customers pay for their purchases with cards instead of cash.”

Alright, I've emailed Coop, Migros, Aldi, Lidl, Volg and Landi (plus an additional shopping center) with the request to implement a time-slot for the elderly. Let's see what comes back. I'll keep you updated.
There the official answer from Migros:

Sehr geehrter Herr lost_inbroad

Manuela Griesser
