They didn't close the borders of Switzerland cause of the Schengen agreement has destroyed them.
Yet somehow, Austria, France and Germany managed to close theirs.

Well done to you! Chapeau!

Yes, I know several others in this position. Some trying to save businesses, some who work in social fields. It is phenomenal how dedicated they/you are, to trying to prevent shipwreck for as many of their clients as possible.

Here's wishing you well, Dr Dog. You might not be able to save them all, but each one you manage to stabilise will be someone who more quickly be able to re-build some new variation of their lives, and get back to supporting themselves and others. I hope you can get sleep, eat healthily, find several moments of 5 minutes a day to enjoy something (music? dancing?). Hang in there.

Thank you so much for the kind words and yes I am doing my best to stay healthy. I hope also that you and your family stay well and are not too drastically affected by this

I do have "Mr Dog" who is a great companion and I take him out for walks and play in the garden. I must say German Shepherds are really bad at social distancing!

I am sad today as it is Mothers Day in UK and I should be there with her and my son to celebrate. I just pray with all my heart she is still with us to celebrate Mothers Day 2021

Not to commercial traffic and cross-border workers, i.e. same as here.

I guess it's easy to think of the virus as being a good thing when you're not someone who has lost their job and/or their savings because of it or who has had to watch a loved one slowly die of suffocation from the virus?
I have lost my job, not to Coronavirus-19, just to business. You know that phrase when they call you in and say it's not personal, it's just business.

I have been losing my savings for the past 10 years, in the fall I will lose unemployment and than I will lose everything I have ever worked for as I need to sell everything I own simply to buy food.

I will slowly die too.

Exactly what I am doing, have a longer term view anyway. So I just ignore this at the moment and I know that I am lucky in being able to do that.

Re: Coron-19 a good thing

Can't see a good thing in the corona virus ..

Hope this crisis will be over in max 3 months, nothing is like it was before.
Even after 9/11 it wasn't this bad.
The economy will take quiet some time to recover, hope that it will not take any longer then 3 months.
Global transport/tourism will come to a complete stop , businesses will vanish.

If you are legally resident in Switzerland, you may be eligible to claim Social Security benefits once the unemployment benefits stop.

To be awarded benefits, you must have used up your assets down to a certain level, which may be different from canton to canton or municipality to municipality (perhaps Fr. 3'000 or Fr. 4'000) But it is not everything.

If once you do receive Social Security benefits, that's no picnic, to be sure, and it is not easy to make it through the month on that very low income. However, at least then you'd have the security of knowing that your rent (up to a certain low maximum) will be covered, and your monthly medical insurance premiums, and your "franchise" and "self-pay" portion of medical costs. And then you'll probably be given a small monthly allowance to cover food and everything else.

Teachers are being forced to sharpen their digital skills during this time. This present situation may affect the way we teach in the future.

Apart from the odd idiot with his foot in his mouth [did some one say Chinese virus] there is almost no news about terrorists, wars, tarrifs or humans arguing with each other about god knows what.
Except from ISIS claiming a terrorist attack on March 6, 2020 on Afganistan https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...rally-in-kabul

France has 5K troops on Mali on a war against...whatever (http://www.leparisien.fr/politique/s...20-8250522.php)

The war on Syria continues. This one does not even requires a link.

Some UN numbers from 2019, 70 million of forcibly displaced people, ~26 million refugees (half of them children) and 3.5 million asylum-seekers. https://www.unhcr.org/figures-at-a-glance.html

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but the virus only took attention away from these problems on the news, it didn't solve them.

It's OK to not care, sometimes it's healthy to not care, but be honest and say "I don't care about it".

Re: Coron-19 a good thing

There is one good thing :

You can delay your tax declaration until May 31st,2020 and there are no "betreibungen" until april 19 2020 .

Apart from that, bills keep on coming and have to be paid.

True. One of children had a class "confererence call" last Friday using Microsoft Teams.

All well and good but didn't work too well as the only one causing any problems was the teacher herself who had decided to put her microphone right next to her PC loudspeakers and so, because of the digital timelag, caused multiple echos of her own voice.

Did someone tell the teacher? She needs to know the quality of her conference so she can change her setup accordingly. Believe me, she'll be grateful for any feedback she can get.

I have been doing quite a bit of it for a while during my postgrad studies onward, so not really future. Nor is the most teaching work done in the actual (or virtual) classroom, tbh. It is done before and after live teaching. But if there is a silver lining, it is that now when parents of students and kids are more envolved, people get to know what is happening in the school system. That is always a brilliant news. Quite a few had no idea, didn't know how much student/teacher work is envolved. Another brilliant thing is, many kids are in fact making more progress now, than in a real class, for many reasons! It puts big responsibility on kids, it works quite well! They are their own managers, gain confidence, zero competition..their own timing (when distance learning).

I'm definitely enjoying the change in pace of life. I have a well paid job that has never really needed much interaction with anyone, and I'm not a great socialiser. I'm sleeping well, and feeling healthier than I have for a long time. So long as going for a walk isn't banned...

However, the virus is not a good thing. It is harming many people as are the consequences: https://www.englishforum.ch/sports-f...lp-please.html

Further, the chances are that, like all of us, I'll eventually catch it. I hope it will be mild for me.
Thank you for your positive and optimistic tone. I believe you.

They showed Les Profs here on state TV, what a great choice of Sat night entertainment, Swiss and their subtle sense of humor, love it.
