Positive things from Corona???
Well for a start I can get from home to work in half an hour instead of one to one and a half on a bad day, the Autobahn is almost like it was during the oil embargo in 1973, another few weeks of shutdown and you could see cylists on the A96.
Then, and call me a crackpot but I feel that the air is different, it has a (for want of a better word) taste to it that reminds me of, well, the 1970ties, it´s just a vague taste, a feeling that is just out of range to grasp.
Dunno, hard to describe.
And maybe I´m going crazy.
Who knows?
Other than that, for me not much has changed. After work I go to my one-room-pokey-hole-under-the-roof, crack a beer and stare at the ceiling till it´s time for bed
Next week however I will be on 90% Kurzarbeit for the next three months, and one month after that my wretched six month contract runs out.
I´m not holding my breath for it to be extended, as this is then the second limited contract I got from them, after which they have to give me a permanent one or let me go, they don´t even have to fire me.
Yes. Could be something alot more "ethereal"

2019 was a record year in the number of resignations of CEO's, board members, politicians and other high ranking individuals.

2020 is already the great exodus. Even Bill Gates stepped down.

I dont buy what the media is selling about Corona. The numbers dont add up. So, when trying to find the truth I like to follow the money, its always a good place to start. To me it looks like the money, and power, are running away, and have been for some time. What does that mean? Who the feck knows?

Money and power has always been running away after some time they spend generating it.

Maybe the real reasons they were in power or connections are about to be exposed, because the top political power isn't covering for them, isn't a friend of these moguls or doesn't need them?

Media are concentrating on social distancing. There was a French doctor on BFM last night, desperately appealing to everyone, especially those chanting "nobody can keep me home for 24hrs, I(my kids) am entitled to my run/walk/whtvr, socially distant" are showing up sick in hospitals because yes, they haven't met anyone. They only touched the door handles, elevator buttons, mailbox right after the mailman, door codes, credit card pin codes, etc. And they rub their ear or move up their glasses. Even people thinking they are safe and wear gloves, he said that usually us maneuvering them is far from what surgeons normally do. Thinking about the mechanics of spread, knowing that asymptomatic people shed virus on others (4 out of 5 in China cought it from asymptomatic people)..awareness of a whole system of measures, understanding the homestretch, is a positive thing.

I hope that some top sportsmen feel content about having an extra year to get ready for the olympic games, improve. But if somebody told me that I got another extra year for a major exam..I would have not been a happy camper. I feel for the sport elite now, though one knows they are disciplined and positive, but still.

The greatest discoveries are made by individuals working alone, not in teams. By introverts who are driven to do what they do...this is a romantic fantasy.
What irks me is reading the ac papers with 17 co-authors knowing it was originated, developped, written and executed by blood and sweat of....most probably one of them. The 8th in the row? 12th? The16th proofread, I will give him that.

I will definitely thank to some hydropower plant, yes! But I do agree with your take, it is valid for absolutely everything, not just patenting new ideas. All that is happening in a society, even now in a shutdown, is a web of micro actions of billion of people. It is good to be reminded..there are people now out there who risk for us so we wouldn't have to, who do way bigger share of these steps.

Re: Coron-19 a good thing

Another good thing of COVID-19 is that it teaches humanity how to deal with a global pandemic while not being very lethal. What would have happened if we had been hit with a virus with a contagious asymptomatic period of 2 weeks as well, but 40% mortality? At least after this experience many schools, universities, government entities, stores etc. will be prepared to continue operating remotely, in case this ever happens again.

Don't get me wrong, this is still a human tragedy and people are losing relatives and friends. So it'd be better to have no virus at all.

This is cruelty beyond belief, at the end of the day tens of millions of Indians are living hand to mouth and without work or state aid they will starve in their homes.

Another good thing of COVID-19, is my local coop, which I usually avoid like the plague (sic), has been forced to open another till.
Must be breaking their hearts not to see a queue 10 people deep anymore.

Re: Coron-19 a good thing

I've been waiting for a statement from Climate Change activists, Extinction Rebellion, etc, etc about
how Covid-19 is helping the environment by reversing global warming due to the absence of human
activity and the enforcement of lockdowns, including the worldwide cancellation of airline flights,
not to mention the massive reduction of cars on the roads.

No doubt the environmentalists only regret is Covid-19 cannot be used to degrade plastic waste.
