I haven't seen any statistics on this, but I thought I would have a go.
Switzerland population 8.2m (2018)
Swiss population over 65 19% (male 672,024 /female 848,591)
Now of those 1.5m who might be seriously ill or worse if they catch coronvirus-19, we have roughtly 15% of 1,500,000 or 225'000.
In 2013 it was reported they had 4.7 beds per 1000 people, and that isn't ICU beds that is simply beds in hospitals.
8,200,000 people * 4.7 = 38540 beds.
So, assuming we dedicate 100% of our hospital capacity to treating this, we can only treat 40K people with coronvirus-19 at a maximum a day, leaving everyone else to die.
More assumptions it takes 2 weeks to get them in and out, we need to play hooky for a minimum of 225'000 / 38650 or 5.83 x 2 weeks, so 10 weeks, to have enough capacity to deal with this. We started 2 weeks ago, we need to stay out of school until mid May at the earliest, better early June.
Although they are planning to re-open the schools 1st May 2020... which seems a little early. I hope they link the restarting of business with the availablity of hospital beds.

ExCel is being converted to provide more beds for example and I expect other centres may be too. https://www.bbc.com/news/health-52018477
Manchester and Birmingham already being converted. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-52070611

If it has only one good thing then its too force people to think about what damage their habits are inflicting on this world.

Another good thing is the fact that people are pulling together to help each other out. Call it the old WW2 fighting spirit or whatever, but people are doing what they can to help others - something that seems to have been getting more and more in short supply for the last few decades.

In Geneva, the closure is (currently) until 8 April, which with school holidays means they restart school on 20 April.

My bet is on early June, if at all.

| | Lockdown - personal short term positive side effects
What works out positive for you during the lockdown, in short term?
Mine:
- We eat much better as we have more time to spend on cooking and eat less junk food
- As the daughter is doing home schooling, we are much closer involved in her education
- Did my own hair cut for the first time this weekend. ROI of the machine is amazing
- Less unneeded shopping
- Home office saves a lot of time
- Because of that I can do sports every day. I'm noticeably more fit now.

Probably the same for me.
Plus an overhaul of kitchen stock, cleaning up, sorting through things. We are getting so good at instruments, too, windows opened for the neighbors who play for us, too. I have to tone down the fuzz on my bass, I think it vibrates the window panes all the way to Bern . Pedicure time...manicure, I have new traditions while watching the evevening news. Time for work outs, reading in a tub. Got new research offers, I think people have the time to pause and breathe a bit, get creative and progress inside.

I am trying to find out if the lockdown is going to be extended after the 19th of April. There is a lot of speculation either way. Is there any official word or indication about this?

I think if the shutdown is lifted, it will be anyway done in degrees (shops without much service or many people 1st, etc.).
They keep updating on this a couple times a week on rts1 7.30pm news, try to watch it.

They will be gradually relaxed before the end of April. The Federal Council will decide on the scenario for ending the crisis next week.
The measures to combat the coronavirus epidemic are well implemented and are showing effects, he said on Wednesday. In view of epidemiological developments and scientific recommendations, the government is nevertheless extending the measures.
But these will be gradually relaxed with all due caution before the end of April. It will decide on the course of action at its April 16 session.
The criteria for relaxation will depend on the number of new infections, hospitalizations and deaths. The way in which social and hygiene measures are respected and how gatherings of people are avoided will also be decisive.
Switzerland's strategy will have to be coordinated with that of other countries. Business and the scientific community will have to be involved. In addition, sufficient human and material resources must be made available for the detection and follow-up of contacts."

Yes a good thing. It is showing the injustice of the poor/rich system around the world. Most evident in USA

Amazing to see how the virus brings a whole economy and society to a halt. Shows how vulnerable the current society and its sytems are.
