And if you have no internet to order online exactly how are you meant to shop? And even if you do good luck placing an order.

I get that they're trying to keep us oldies safe, but for some of us it may not be an option to stay in 24/7.

Of course I guess we could and then starve to death instead.
I'm sure the commune has a solution in place. Nobody will starve to death

Unfortunately your wrong. My other half was turned away from two grocery stores because of being over 65. We watched others being turned away for the same reason. One other family was turned away because they would only allow one person from each family to enter (all this at the Coop). When we got home we called the Commune and were told that public transportation is out. That we would risk being fined if caught using it. We were also told that we are not supposed to go out at all.
Well, then get a younger OH. For the collective good and in order to flatten the curve, I'm glad to see such rules being implemented.

Re: Sounds Like Age Discrimination

I notice that all of the people saying its a good thing are not 65 and over.

These kinds of restrictions are easy to implement, however, risk is a little more subtle than date of birth.

But, people dont pay attention, dont think, so this is what we have. You have to go with what you can implement.

So, mods, what’s the limit on different posts for the same subject?

Re: Sounds Like Age Discrimination

Are they asking for ID? I am almost 65, that happens in a month or so, but I look 10 years, or so, younger. The co-op automated tellers are always asking me if I am old enough to drink. So, I figure I am young enough to shop.

I cant see the difference between being 64 11/12th and 65.

I turned 65 a month ago. Did I cross a magic line? I do look younger than my age as well. But Ive not had to deal with it - as of yet - well see.

Re: Sounds Like Age Discrimination

The simple fact is, when older people get this virus, they tend to get more ill than younger people but, more importantly, they usually remain ill for longer.

With simple maths, basically, if they take up a IC hospital bed for a month, that bed could have been used by two younger people for two weeks each (not the same two weeks).

Going out unnecessarily if you are elderly is a pretty selfish act - more so than panic buying or watching too much Netflix.

Im not talking about going out unnecessarily. Ive been isolated for days. Ive been to the shops once.

According to the other thread I am no more likely to be infected by the virus than an 18 year old.

I am careful and I take precautions.

Our Commune certainly has, and so had our local Churches and neighbours' groups, as well as several Internet/FB support groups which have merged into one now. So, no. nobody will starve to death- whether you look your age, or not. Many local restaurants have also put systems in place to serve menus every day. Bring a suitable container- leave it on table in front of door- collect pay remotely. The one down the road is doing a daily menu which is published on line, large portion for 14.-

LiB can be a smartass but he's a genuinely nice guy. If you and your younger husband need groceries delivered, he'll help you out.

Yup. I suspect you‘re not really a Putz, either.

I just have a visceral reaction to being called elderly.
