Re: My rights - employer forcing us to take holiday

Im sorry, its not very related to the question. But I was wondering has anyone ever taken 3 or 4 consecutive weeks ( I have 5 weeks yearly ) or is it" too much " to ask for 3/4 weeks?

I was hoping I could do a long tour in Asia.. ( of course not during this pandemic )

This type of thing is very normal in Switzerland (of course, this might vary across industries and employers). Tell your boss ASAP that you are thinking of doing this and check if it is concievable and if so, how would you go about planning it to make sure that it is possible.

I did it last year. Took the 4 weeks in a row in Jul/Aug 2020. Talk to your manager and team and everything's possible. I have the advantage that my customers also take long vacations in summer.

Only downside is that I was exhausted before Christmas break. I had no days left for even a 3 day weekend.

Same here and I fully see the rationale of the employers. the forced work from home is practically 50% holiday anyway and for the employers to at least partially compensate for paying you fully today you will have to give something extra later. Think of it this way: your employers is fully entitled to sack you today but has decided to keep you and keep on paying.
Almost all research shows that Working From Home means more hours spent working and increased physical, mental and emotional stress....not sure where the 50% holiday data comes from?

Re: My rights - employer forcing us to take holiday

The 50% comes from one of the many people who think that Working from home means that they can just answer the emails which need immediate attention and attending meetings with the right people - those which show them in a good light, they then spend the rest of the time relaxing and doing their own thing because nobody can see and who cares the company are paying the salary regardless.

Its sickening for those of us that are working more than usual when Working from home!

I happen to do money collaborating There a probability higher than zero that I'm just a damned hypocrite, so let's rephrase to keeping up the appearances of collaboration pay.

Re: My rights - employer forcing us to take holiday

I have collegues from Kenya and Australia who will save up holiday allowance to go visit their respective home countries for 3-4 weeks at a time - usually every 2 years. Provided their work is done and people can deputise there has been no problem.

Just make sure the leave period is booked in plenty of time and sufficient time is set aside to do any handover.

HTH.
Nick
