The word ‘Free’ is abused quite badly. What they should be saying is ‘at no additional charge’

Buy one, get one free NO
Buy one, get one at no additional charge YES
...but then the acronym wouldn't be BOGOF.

(probably only works for UK English speakers)

No such thing as "Free Delivery". There is a real cost of transporting from A to B. If they don't separately charge delivery, that cost is factored in with the price of goods.
Whilst I generally agree.. The stuff I ordered from Migro was already either cheap or was discounted, like the compost, couple of hundred kilo of that for 20 odd chf.. The BBQ was 40% discount, ok that's just their markup..

But the point being is that they can deliver me ~300kg of bulky stuff without an additional charge and Hornbach wanted 159chf to deliver a couple of planks of wood.

They could have sent it in a taxi for 50 bucks

What do you think cost more to ship by airfreight?

1kg of lead or
1kg of feathers?

Volume is much more important than weight. Same applies to surface transport, particularly as one odd shape consignment could displace one or more normal sized consignments. Or the driver could need an assistant.

Yes, agree. Delivery companies want goods that cannot be very easily picked up and carried by one person to be on pallets for ease of loading and unloading. They want delivery drivers to do as little manual handling as possible. Pallets come in standard sizes and delivery costs are based on number of pallets and if they are stackable or not. (how much total space they take up in vehicle) Far easier to stick a pump truck or fork lift under a pallet than manhandling something oversized
