Hey Tom, question for you:

How well are the lake borders controlled between Switzerland and Italy?

Going to a secluded green area with a BBQ, sunloungers, plenty of free space, tree cover and beautiful views of the nearby lake and the Bernese alps...

VERY.

Only border that is easy to cross is the one with Campione (it's not controlled at all)!

Re: Easter - where are you going?

Ah thanks- did not know there is a second Jurapark with a 'k' - the one near us has wild bears and wolves, bisons and lynx- all living in very large enclosures with access to natural cliffs. Hate zoos- but this one is the least bad ... and you observe the animals from a raised wooden walkway.

Ace- I imagine you cover the pool at night as it is still quite cold. Must say I am enjoying my jakuzzi- 38C and use it later afternoon when the sun is on it- watching foxes, hares, deer, red kites, buzzards and hobbies with all the bird song.

Re: Easter - where are you going?

Hi,

French/Italy border is closed for any touristic transit and you are not allowed to move/travel freely across the country. All touristic sites are closed and police/military are enforcing it.

Swiss and Italian authorities are suggesting (strongly) not to move around and to stay home. Please consider 16500 death in Italy in the last 4 weeks and a daily count of more than 600 (https://www.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashb...cefd02f8c3e834

Italy will welcome all visitors later this year for sure!

What is the likelihood of them detecting a night time SUP cross border crossing? Specifically Lago Maggiore?

in Switzerland there is no limitation on people moving around. You can move around. As long as you keep your distance you can go and do whatever you want.

Some ski guide called the police on some cross country skiers, what did the police do? Check that they were keeping their distance

No matter what other people say, stay at home is only a suggestion, not a legal requirement

Re: Easter - where are you going?

Ah hilarious, Patxi spitting at me for supposedly being "smug" that Switzerland - a country where notably s/he lives as well - has gotten it all under control fairly quickly without locking people up entirely...

... now plans a weekend in Cinque Terre.

Doesn't get much better than this.

And yet over and over again, people are being asked not to travel. Not to travel to their holiday homes in other parts of Switzerland from where they live. Most especially not to go to the Ticino.

And still, for reasons of... well, who knows why... people still seem to think the restrictions don't apply to them. Anyone can become infected and anyone can transfer that infection to anyone they meet, and though the transferring person may have a robust immune system and not suffer much if they do become ill, any of the people they meet could be hit hard. That minimum responsibility should count more than just doing "whatever you want".

Re: Easter - where are you going?

In the end, anyone going to stay in holiday homes or across regional/country borders for a weekend knows full well that they are doing something that they shouldn't be doing during a pandemic. If they are fine with that, knowing full well the risks to themselves and others, risks that have been well-publicised, then that's their choice and nothing anyone says in this thread is going to make any difference.

How is staying in the middle of the woods, 4km from home (that I have to pass in any case on my way to the store to buy food), with nearest neighbor 1km, riskier (or even AS risky) as staying in a building with 50 people, with another several hundred people within a few hundred meter radius?

The mind boggles.

Tom
