Been there, done that... I really know how frustrating it can be. However keep going!

Good luck.

Since last October? That's nothing.
Be patient, I'm sure something suitable will come along.

am since 3 years searching (for something permanent) and since October last year apply to all I can found (outside pflege)
i manage to get 4 interviews and 1 schnuppertag, (Police, Pflege and a start Up Company) but at the end nothing.
RAV don't care if I work in my mother land many years of customs service, bank and so on (nothing of that is valid for them) also my University Degree Social Work is useless here.
but technically 3 years searching for a decent job, or something to allow me to pay my bills, I don't have money for weiterbildung courses and I can't apply to all because I don't have a basic lehre

Yeah, I know, same boat. . .different waters. RAV will fund the Weiterbildung, if you can justify how it will help you to find a job sooner.

well that I was thinking, and when I talk to the woman... she make me feel I was just talking to the wall. (don't look me to my face and so on)
just give me paper to fill... and send me away feeling more frustrated than before.

i don't wanna have money from the RAV I told to the woman, I need help for search for a permanent job, but I guess the RAV is just a name and they just take care of people who is asking for the benefits.
i dont wanna or have ever take money from RAV or Social Help, I have my hands and my head.. a just need a opportunity that is all

Yeah, I hear you. Plus the "opportunities" you get are some chump change, hourly nonsense. I know. Well, I all I can say is hang in there, something will come along.
Question, are you still at RAV and if yes, is language a problem or do you speak fluent German?

Get a list of all the Elderly Nursing homes in Zürich and send your references to ALL of them. Make sure your reference is done professionally. Its the first impression that counts.
Stay in the nursing profession ( Pflegehelfer ). And the RAV should support you in doing extra studies in nursing on a part time basis. And push these people at the RAV. It often depends on who you have as your contact at the RAV that matters. Some are fully incompetent and are well paid government sleepers.( "Sleeper Cell")

Re: how long until I found a job?

Why is your social work degree not recognised ? lack of Swiss language or a problem with accreditation ?

Did you try to get it accredited ? Social work is a controlled profession, so either you can go directly to their professional organisation, or you need to go to 'ERIC' to have your degree generally recognised.

Link is here: https://www.swissuniversities.ch/

Did you do a 4 year social work bachelor's degree with clinical placement, or something else ? Any other undegraduate studies that might be helpful ?

With a social work degree you may be able to get a childcare job. Social work is listed as an approved qualification for childcare - as you have already managed to get some nursing posiitons, I assume you have a local language to an acceptable level ?

Unfortunately it's really pot-luck who you get and if they are any good or not.

My first time I had a complete arsehole - hostile and unhelpful in the extreme.

Second time around the person I had was very good, very supportive, quite progressive, sent me on 3 good courses (2x CV/job-searching, 1x German language) and we were discussing a fourth course when I got a job sorted out.

Re: how long until I found a job?

Hi, same here.

Looking for a job from beginning of december with no luck.
So, I learned to make a lebenslauf (my early ones look like a 3 year old put them toghter..), a motivation letter well (WELL) articulateted, a professional picture (not really the best of may days..but nice backscreen) and applied to online courses of german and PLC programming (in german).
Still not 1 interview.
Looks like they do not know to read or just do not understand what is writte on the cv.
At the moment, I'm having a "professional" help me to find something a lot less qualified and of course less payed as what i could do....

16years around the globe, 10 years selfemployed, school diploma...50 years old and no swiss arbeitszeugniss? sorry...you can't wash the toilets at the hauptbahnhof.

DO NOT SURRENDER! The right opportunitie will arrive..continue to work towards it. Try to evolve yourself as much as possible also with online course: they are paper that you can give the idiots to read...and make them happy.

Being 50 or older makes it a lot more difficult, also not having the right "papers" does not make it easier either. There are still so many well qualified and well trained people who want to work here, the choice for most employers is easy.

As someone said, OP should try to get the training recognized, much easier if you have the equivalent to Swiss education.

Good luck

To increase your chances of finding work, at all, and of getting further qualifications, it seems to me that it would make sense to put a significant part of your time and energy into improving your command of the local language. That is likely to open doors, especially in your field.

I'm on Busuu, an online language course. It's really not that bad or expensive. Even if they qualify my german as B1, I startet back from a1.
Lots of insight and words that are difficult and will not get used that often but are still usefull.
Gram is not easy and sometime really strange...but it helps improving.

After a month, I will try to get from B1 to B2 by the end of the week.
How is your Lebenslauf und motivations letter?

When I thought mine was perfect, some friends just streight told me it was c..p.....
If everything goes well, next week I might have my first interview in 6 months.

3 languages, years of field expirience around the world, responsable for people and machinery.....and I'm going to fix drill machines......:rolle yes:better than sitting at home I guess....
