As an infectious diseases specialist do you think there's a significant risk of catching it again within such a short timeframe? Do you think your symptoms would be milder if you did?

Do you think you know when exactly you caught it?

Sorry for the questions, really interested in your experience.
No worries. Ask away. I was hoping me ill would inspire my parents to stay inside.
Hard to say. It seems like any research they have so far is entirely unclear. Maybe I am safe, maybe not.
I feel like any common cold or strep throat could knock me out after what COVID did.

I'm a person who ferries coworkers to the clinic to get flu vaccines on flu vaccination day every year, just because im religiously trying to improve the vaccine rates in CH. So getting corona from....a train seat? A door? A cashiers hands? Super frustrating.

I can narrow it down to the exact moment I felt ill. But where I got it from? No clue. Thats the scary part when they start reopening. Being vigilant while still maintaining your life.

Quick math (supposing sick people will be selfish and get in close/direct contact with delivery guys):

Population Switzerland: 8'570'000
CoVID19 Cases (officially): 29'000
Deliveries: 50

(29/8570)*50*100 = 17% chance meeting with a infected person
I think you mean 100*( 1 - ((8570-29)/8570)^50 ) = 15.6% chance of having met an infected person

Re: Personal experience contracting corona?

Back in December 2018 during the Christmas holidays my husband went down with a really bad type of flu that had been circulating in Basel since the previous month. Within a couple of days he was extremely unwell and needed to see a doctor as he was really struggling to breathe. He was kept on a nebuliser and monitored for 2 hours at the clinic he went to. The aftermath was he was on 2 types of inhaler as the flu had caused a type of adult onset asthma and it took him until about October last year to fully recover. It was like he had post viral syndrome for most of the year and he is normally as strong as an ox.

He said it had all the same symptoms as this current virus and the breathlessness was very frightening.

Sadly we found out on Tuesday evening that a friend of ours back in Edinburgh lost his father in law to Covid-19 over the weekend. Thankfully his mother in law pulled through and she was discharged from hospital on Monday, his F i L died within 3 days of being admitted.

I've been sick for almost 3.5 months since last December. Not seriously, but every second week I had either sore throat, or cough, or running nose, or ear ache, or red eye with some pus, or horrible headache, or joint pain, always for a few days in a row.
...
I'm 30 and I've never have been sick for so long, except for this season.
Wow, that must be a real drag. Just getting over one thing to fall right into the next. I hope summer brings you relief and lasting improvement.

Re: Personal experience contracting corona?

Some scary stories here... Hope those of you who had it get healthy soon, and those who are, stay healthy please!

Pretty sure I had it myself as well, it knocked me out for over a month. At first just low fever, but sapped of all strength or energy. Total loss of any taste (I was eating shrimps fried in garlic oil when I noticed that...) Then the fever stopped for one day, and then came back with a vengeance and a cough. Almost fainted twice, while I was lying on my bed, and needed to learn to take extra big breaths every few minutes to prevent that. Somewhere in there I had extremely high blood pressure of around 175/115, thought my eyes would pop out . And as others described, the asthma feeling stayed to this day. But walking gets easier every day so, here's to hoping that there won't be any lasting damage.

Apart from that I have one friend in Russia who has the exact same symptoms, went to the doctor where she was told "oh, a viral infection of the lungs, go home, take these antibiotics, and rest until it passes."

Maybe the lie was about the 50 people ... that even having had it, they denied.

Did you tell him you had?

Re: Personal experience contracting corona?

Thank doG, I have not had the virus myself. (Knock wood!)

But I know fifteen twenty eight people who tested positive, and more who had symptoms but did not qualify for tests. Of the those who were tested, the majority were asymptomatic or had symptoms only needing self-care. However six ten became very ill requiring hospitalization - and sadly three five in that group died. Those The earlier cases who were asymptomatic/mild cases were all living with someone who became very ill, hence they were tested. But who infected who remains a question. It seems the latest cases are community transmission.

Most of the people I know who have had the virus are in the US. I only know two people here in Switzerland who had it, an older lady who was quite ill and had to be hospitalized but thankfully has recovered, and one of her family members who although positive remained asymptomatic.

Nothing angers me more than those deniers/conspiracy theorists/selfish Covidiots who refuse to follow safety guidelines.

ETA: Updated from yesterday's family/friends news. I fear the numbers will get worse as the infection peaks in the various states. I'll repeat my sentiments about those who for whatever twisted reason are bent on minimising the situation.

The only person I know of who had it was one of the first in Washington state to get it. He died.

Re: Personal experience contracting corona?

I know people who
-had it & recovered at home
-had/have it & were/are in the ICU (2 are now at home recovering)
-sadly my cousin died of it

All of these are in the US. An acquaintance here whose mother died of it said her Swiss husband's niece & nephew had it in CH. But no one I personally know in CH seems to know anyone who had it.....?

Re: Personal experience contracting corona?

Someone should tell that delivery man that he should have lived on any of the main emergency vehicle routes into Zurich 4 weeks ago when ambulances were one every 5 mins or so for a few nights.

All the 7 cases I know personally are in the UK, 3 family members and 4 friends. Two family members were within a couple of hours of being hospitalised according to their doctors. 3 friends tested positive in March when testing was happening and further one has had a positive antibody test this week. An old schoolfriend, someone I've not seen for years but is still in regular contact with my best mate, lost her younger brother to it last week.

One friend is currently a nurse on a dedicated covid ward in my home town where they've had 160 deaths (not all in that hospital) and our nephew's fiancee is a London doctor doing covid diagnosis and referrals to hospital.

Re: Personal experience contracting corona?

wow what a thread. it sounds really scary to have it. wow.

@chuff … I don't know anyone who thinks it's a lie but I've seen the graffiti and until now just assumed it was ironic/silly ('covid is a globalist conspiracy' it says). does he say what are the motivations for the big lie? tbh it was a bit nice when there was nobody about I have to say, all the empty streets. what is the reason for doing it according to the conspiracies? probably they're all online but literally I stopped reading covid news in the middle of march, well give or take anyway.

Re: Personal experience contracting corona?

I *suspect* I might have an incredibly mild form of it, mid-March. For about a week, I would go to bed and feel a "tightening of the lungs", for lack of a better description. Almost as if someone had wrapped up my lungs in some Clingwrap. Nothing terrible, no fever, no cough, and only a week long.

I was never tested, so I am just guessing here. Otherwise, I don't know directly anyone else has / had it.

My colleague's father died due to COVID-19. In Basel. Thankfully no one in my immediate social circle or their loved ones have been infected. Or at least if they were, they weren't aware implying their symptoms were quite mild at worst.

Have you ever been diagnosed with asthma? You may have been exposed to an allergic trigger (I know dust does it for me).

I don't have asthma and no (known) allergies, but my husband has both. He didn't notice any change during that time. It was completely out of the blue.

My asthma normally doesn't bother me too much and I can get away with very low doses of the medication to control it, but when I have a respiratory infection my breathing becomes much more difficult and my flixotide/ventolin consumption goes through the roof.

He'd *probably know about it if he'd been infected, probably impossible to avoid if you'd had it.
