Hello Greece?

Hello, quick advice, please: I had booked almost 8 months ago a one week holiday in Greece, beginning of July. This was to be a post separation "mending holiday", especially since I had not been abroad for years (Scotland is not abroad, although Appenzell might be considered as such!). And now it might turn out to be a nice romantic holiday...except... bloody Covid 19!

I have received no message advising to rebook from Swiss for the Geneva-Athens part, but I keep getting this message from Aegan Airlines for the second leg of the journey, telling me I only have till 10th May to make any change of booking free of charge...although they don't say the early July flight is cancelled.

I have been avoiding the news for the last 3 weeks and don't really know what is the latest regarding travel. Should I contact the Greek embassy or some other agency? Risk it and wait, keeping my fingers crossed and everything else that can be? I've got an Airbnb guest arriving from Oslo end of May, so international travel must be slowly resuming somehow.

Spare me the talk about the beautiful skies without the planes, as I said, first holiday abroad in 5 years, talk to the big polluters instead.

Re: Hello Greece?

Did you book both flight legs as one ticket? Ie are they connecting flights or multi-city tickets?

I'd wait, if they airline cancels, you would be entitled to a refund. The only issue you would have is if you tickets aren't linked and one airline cancels and the other doesn't.

Re: Hello Greece?

Yeah I would wait at the minute....its still possible things might change and you may be allowed to go, fingers crossed! I am in the same boat, booked to go to Croatia in July. I am planning on waiting until airline cancels flights and only then act to cancel hotels. My advice, sight tight for the time being

Maybe by July they'd be letting people transit by car through Austria and Slovenia. It was in the news a few weeks ago that Croatia was looking for countries to create tourist "corridors" to allow that tourist money to flow south.

Re: Hello Greece?

Hi McTAVGE,
I take it you have booked a flight to Athen with Swiss and on to a Greek island with Aegean. Aegean have this week made public, they will start normal service from 01.07.2020. By Swiss they are still waiting to announce the start of normal service. The Aegean are offering you the chance to change flights free of charge (for people who don't have a "Flex ticket"). They are offering this because the Swiss flight is still not sure.

I had the same problem and have changed all flights until September.

Re: Hello Greece?

You got to be brave to travel in July, I would worry about increased exposure at the airport. For us, we are planning for December for any out of country holidays
but good luck nevertheless

As it stands currently as you arrive in Greece at the airport they take sample for the covid test and you go to a hotel in Athens for quarantine. If test is negative they release you from the hotel within a couple of days and you go your business. If test positive you stay at the hotel for 14 days.
Greece is safe for holidays as the virus hasn't spread but it is not decided how to handle tourists yet. Perhaps there is an easier process by July.

Re: Hello Greece?

We've got tickets for the US in July and are kind of in the same boat, have until the end of May to make a decision. Hoping things are clearer by then. It's been a year since I've seen my family, by far the longest I've gone and I have to admit I'll be gutted if we can't go especially since they were supposed to come here in March followed by my best friend in April but obviously all that was canceled. I told my husband if we can't go to the US this summer I'm buying a puppy seems like a good compromise to me, less so to him
