| | About cows...
So where i live is surrounded by fields, mostly containing cows.. Directly joined to the garden is a big cow field, they provide a good source of entertainment whilst sitting out with a wine or ten.. They are really playful and surprisingly fast runners.. The eaters are friendly and come right over, especially curious about the dog.. The milkers just ignore people..
Got me thinking .. What are the different breeds, what are they for etc .. I get that some are milkers and some are eaters.. But is there more to it?. For the "good looking" shiny muscular beefers the farmer even comes every fews days and pulls out weeds so they have just nice grass.
We don't actually have a local farm shop that sells anything cow related so I don't even know where the local produce goes.

Cattle are for milking, eating, fighting, fertilizing, pulling stuff, showing off, wearing, revering and talking to.

I love cows, especially the tan coloured ones with the big fluffy ears. I'm fascinated by the way cows all sit down in a field and have a conversation, like a group of aunties I love tan coloured cows when I'm in Scotland as well.

But same colour and horns..!

And then there are crossed ones where the mother cow is Braunvieh or Simmental and the bull Agnus, Charolais or something else. https://www.agrarforschungschweiz.ch...ughter-yields/
If you do not have a bull you can choose what you want from catalogs https://swissgenetics.com/ | This user would like to thank aSwissInTheUS for this useful post: | |

We too are surrounded by mountain meadows, filled with cows in the summer and autumn. Right now though, they are still in their barns. In about a month, they'll be herded up the road, to their summer high alpine pastures.
We make a point of being home when this happens. They're so lovely to watch, and the bell clanging makes us laugh, and inevitably despite the best efforts of the farmers, a few wind up sneaking away on our driveway and walking around our cars - a planet away from city life here!

We see our happy cows when we walk by them every day. They seem to talk to eachother but not to us. They look better than in other countries.

Where the meat goes after is harder to know, I've asked the farmer who puts his cows in the field below my house and the meat isn't available locally. But some other farms have signs saying meat for sale etc.
Here's the top-10 of female cow names in Switzerland ( source):
1 Bella
2 Tulipe
3 Etoile
4 Caline
5 Noisette
6 Iris
7 Vanille
8 Nina
9 Cerise
10 Tina
You can see the source and sort by popularity for language etc.
