Gyms reopening 11th May - would you go?

I noticed that all gyms can reopen today under strict guidelines. I had a look on the Migros Fitness website and there isn't much information on it at all. Last thing I am going to do is rush out to the gym, but interested to know what views other have on it. In Netherlands, gyms cannot open until 1st September while in UK no date has been given.

For safety I would much favour a small boutique gym who only offer 1 on 1 PT training rather than trust the big commercial gyms with so much equipment and surfaces that could easily be contaminated. I believe that the jury is still out as to whether it can be transferred via sweat.

Re: Gyms reopening 11th May - would you go?

I'll probably wait a bit.. Not really because i'm afraid of the virus but because of the rules, it won't be the same experience.

My crossfit gym is re-opening but with only 4 + coach instead of 15, with 10m/2 each person, separation, with all the cleaning and rules, no changing or showers, no sharing equipment etc etc. We have very clear rules.

I think i'll wait a bit and see how goes.

Re: Gyms reopening 11th May - would you go?

No. Not because I'm worried about the virus but because the gym is next to my job. Since I'm not going to the office, I'll not drive 25 min just for the gym. Also, I've been having a lot of fun with the mountain bike in this warm and dry spring.

The plan is to return the office by June, same for the gym. I really miss the sauna.

Mine is too small to reopen.

But if any of you are considering whether or going out to restaurants, the pub etc., now is the best time while the virus has been contained. Not sure we can say the same in one weeks time.

Re: Gyms reopening 11th May - would you go?

The snooker hall my OH plays at on Wednesday evenings in Basel is re-opening today. He's been contacted by guys he plays with but says he wants to give it another couple of weeks. It's not really down to the virus situation though, more to do with the fact we've both got birthdays this week and next week, also because he's got a work deadline to meet.

Yes, that is my concern as to whether infection rates will go up now that people are moving about more.

Yes, I've always loved our local Vitaparcours just not in the summer, especially last summer!

Love the pictures from 70s.

OP, not sure about my gym. Kids go to school now, they do not have a choice, it feels already as a bit of an experiment. I am really really tempted since I normally go to gym every day, but this time I think I will wait a little longer. Although going today would probably be the safest.

Ssshhh, I like mine nice and quite the way it was the few time workmates convinced me to come along with promises of beer afterwards. They didn't mention it was up a hill and a 5km jog to the first obstacle. I wheezed and panted my way around this thing enjoying the breaks from running to do a few excercises, running down hill was nothing but reminding me of the lack of cartilage in my knees.
Then there was no beer, they were joking because they didn't think I'd go.

Considering I have never gone to a gym to begin with, that would be a solid no from me.

If there was any place you were more likely to get COVID-19, it would surely be a gym where people are sweating, breathing, and coughing all over the place.

It would be quite difficult to maintain hygiene standards even with some distancing.

Re: Gyms reopening 11th May - would you go?

I went to the gym a few years ago and quickly realized that I'm not very fond of being in a crowded space with no air flow, full of sweaty stranger people.

Gyms are always semi-nasty places that are a pain to clean. I mean you can keep wiping down everything put some people goo manages to seep into all sorts of cracks.
I had it my head that partner dancing would have to be the perfect spreader, with people changing partners, holding hands and breathing straight at each other.

Re: Gyms reopening 11th May - would you go?

Gyms are not ideal but not being fit is even less of an ideal. I like to feed off the energy of others to quietly share the same goal.

I have been grateful to the staff here waiting up for me at least once a week to finish up my rounds so I do feel like I want to trust them to sanitize well..they probably cannot wait to see their loyal clients.

I will wait a bit, but wish I cold just hop over right away.

Re: Gyms reopening 11th May - would you go?

My gym has put in place an online booking system to ensure the numbers onsite are controlled. They also have sanitiser spray next to each machine and the long standing rule that everyone has to bring a towel to spread on contact surfaces.

I'm not worried, should be fine

You don't need to use a gym to keep fit.

Re: Gyms reopening 11th May - would you go?

I think small gyms are the best for this. No crowds, etc. And we are used to bringing our own towels to place on any contact areas anyways.

I think a week is ok to wait, I am so antsy, certainly do not get the same work out outside even when I have been doing it every day since the lockdown started.
