Ha, yes, but do we live in the same country?
If, hypothetically, she or he cries over an injured invertebrate, the question is "do you live on the same planet?"

...is what the Blues Brothers should have been singing! I was reminded, and I accepted it, that one needs to be cautious when mentioning someone else on this forum, because Switzerland is such a small country that, whatever one might believe, connections can potentially be made.

So, I decided to retell my story in a far more acceptable way for Switzerland:

"I once met this girl (or perhaps it was a man?) who was coming from a village that in fact was the suburb of a big, anonymous city. She (or he?) had beautiful, colourless hair and her eyes were, well, just her/his eyes.
We shared the same passion, which could have be anybody's passion, and we enjoyed walking, respecting social distancing, which means we could have never been holding hands (but we may have touched elbows).
When, in some vague past period of time, I visited her, which was quite some distance from where I live, we talked in a few of the many languages that we share and decided to use the same one to declare our love to each other (but do rest assured, there might have been a bit of anger in there, too!).

So, here I am, unable to describe my feelings but one thing is absolutely certain...I cannot keep sulking from EF for very long!"

Lost Inbroad, are you single????

A return visit took place at some stage this year, here in Canton X. and it was all fabulous until we went to a certain restaurant where we bumped into a certain person with a certain aversion for anything that might upset anything alive and there was a certain scene worthy of an old movie, slightly embarrassing, but I came out of it alive and with all my dignity. And, quite frankly, I was not going to let it spoil the evening because I feel SO happy. Hopefully, this did not give out too many clues!

Has anybody ever told the certain person that humans too are alive?

McTafve, is that certain restaurant the only one within 30km of you place?

But it did. I pictured this type of movie.....

On a more serious note, you could have taken the new partner somewhere else....at least for a while.

Exactly the scene I had in mind! Well done!

I chose a restaurant where I had never been before on a night where I knew Other did not normally go out... plus, as I am not the one who ended the relationship, I did not feel I had to hide and live in shame for the rest of my life. So yes, I did try to avoid a slightly uncomfortable situation by sparing someone's feelings if they saw me with someone else, but, as I keep being reminded, Switzerland is no bigger than a shoebox!

You had a date, congrats! After 30 years of not dating, brainfarts are bound to happen. Just keep going...it will get better (and classier I guess).

Awww, you're nice, thanks, but that was an easy one - everyone thinks of a scene or another from Casablanca at one point or another in their life.

As for the rest of your post, McTavge, please don't feel like you have to justify yourself to me or anyone else here. I realised I sounded a tad judgemental. Apologises.

I guess Switzerland is a small place, but that was a coincidence. Don't let yourself disheartened by it. But as long as you'll hang out with the same crowd/visit the same places, these incidents are prone to happen.

And btw, I came to the conclusion that trying to spare anyone's feelings will get yours hurt.... Not worth it.

All righty, I'm stepping out now because I'd hate to derails this thread any further.
Good luck.

Uhmmm...Hahahaha. You Romeo! Tell me in the evening how many girls have dropped their handkerschiefs in front of you, ok? Pick it up with your teeth!

I am just waiting for LiB to waltz in this thread on his...cayak. Au secours!

In the meantime, we will throw an EF lake&sup party sometime soon when life and measures allow - you know how people do Yoga on a SUP, you should do Yodel on a SUP! (I will coin this later ).

You are not derailing anything, au contraire! If anything, because I DO live my life according to strong honour, respect and gentleman's codes and because I feel at the moment dragged into a whirlpool of emotions completely alien to me, it is nice to be reminded to keep one's feet firm on the ground from time to time.
