Corona openings

Hey All,

so I went for an evening stroll yesterday with a very nice summerish breeze. I couldn't help but notice that bars were brimming with people while restaurants were closed.

How is this logical? I mean the bars were full to the point that there wasn't more than 2-meter distance between people and restaurants with ample sitting areas are told to close by 10p.m.

Does anybody feel the same way?

Cheers

Re: Corona openings

Some restaurants have decided to remain closed and keep employees on kurzarbeit because they operate on very small profit margins. Reducing the number of tables to comply with distance means they lose money by working.

Meanwhile bars can comply theoretically with the distance (less tables) because profit margins are higher. As you saw, the distancing is not followed, but the regulation says tables at X distance and tables are positioned according to that, regulation followed. The rest of the job should be done by customers.

Re: Corona openings

Many of the bars are indeed not following regulations. My good friend owns one of the best locals and she strictly is. Apparently at anytime, the authorities can walk in and could issue a serious enough fine to put them out of business. She prefers not to take the risk even though her next door neighbors are currently making more money by not following the regulations.

My guess is that since the virus spread has remained quite contained so far, the authorities haven't been busting the businesses as they should. Let's see what happens in the future.
