| | UK - New travel quarantine rules
This topic has been discussed around the different threads but probably deserves its own thread to help those of us who plan to travel there in the coming months. Please feel free to share your recent experiences.
There are still questions to my mind which the government website does not answer e.g. what if you need to leave before the 14 days to return home? Logically this should be OK if travelling to the airport is not deemed to be a breach of quarantine
I am perfectly happy to isolate at my parents for a week but I can't afford to be off any longer.

Otherwise you'd expose them or they'd have to isolate as well....
Also this idea that if you are travelling on to another CTA country directly you don't have to isolate until you reach your final destination... what about all the people you meet along the way that will not be isolating... an internal fight, train, boat...

Seems daft but...
If you give an address where you are quarantining and they check and you're not there, the fine is £1000.
But if you refuse to give an address in the UK , the fine is £100. But they won't know where you are.
What an embarrassing mess----

I'm watching how things are going to pan out at the moment. I was supposed to be back in Scotland this week due to the subsidence issues with my house back there, but we transferred the flights to mid September when we really have to try to get back for 2 weeks. We're being put under pressure by The Coal Authority to sign off remedial work on our house and have been told if we can't do it then we will have to pay for a surveyor to do it for us. Our Solicitor is outraged as they are not taking into consideration our travel issues (the Authority also did a confidential out of court deal with the developer which looks like the 36 owners affected won't be able to sue him for compensation, none of our solicitors were informed of this. So typical of anything connected to the UK Government). He also says it's our right as owners to be able to inspect ourselves as there's a lot we're not happy about and he needs a face to face meeting with us.
We've had to suffer over 4 years of this sh1t and the pandemic was just the icing on the cake. I had thought I'd have my house let out by autumn, looks like next summer now. Unfortunately I can't sell as agents have told us our properties currently have zero value.
Best bit is, the developer bought an affected house in a street behind us off a lady who was desperate to move out. The Coal Authority are paying for him to have it done up so he can rent it and have halted all works on 3 affected flats next door to it so his tradesmen can work on the renovation!
2 houses had to be demolished as they were so dangerous, one was my sister's and I wish the other one had been mines tbh.

It will not be enforced, I would not worry about it.
The Govt. is pushing self responsibility to do the right thing.
The police won't check up, they don't have the resources.

But the idea that you are exempt if you are transiting to another jurisdiction just blows the thing apart since there is no internal tracking in any case.

If you don't give an address in oder to pay the smaller fine then this in theory only works for British nationals. Otherwise you'll likely be excluded entry.
From the website it seems like you'd be additionally fined if you go this route.
You're allowed to stay with people but I agree it makes no sense.
From gov.uk : "If you are travelling to the UK for less than 14 days, you will be expected to self-isolate for the length of your stay."

Hi,
I just wondered if anyone has travelled to the UK since the quarantine was imposed on June 8th. If yes, were you contacted by phone or in person to check you were isolating?
We are due to fly back next Friday for 3 weeks and are very much hoping the quarantine will be lifted in the near future.

| | UK Quarantine: Short Trips?
Tried finding this online, but without much luck...
Does anyone know what the rules for the trips to the UK under 14-days?
i.e. I need to head to the UK, pack up a house and get it ready for the next tenant ,and then head back. I'm fairly confident I can do the lot while interacting with only the people at the airport and two taxi drivers. (mainly to minimise the risk to myself). I would stay at the property, so that part is easy, and would wear a full face NBC mask on the planes.
That said, does that mean I need to stay IN the UK for 14 days before I can fly back to CH?
There seem to be exceptions for people that travel weekly...
eople who live in the UK but work in another country and travel between the UK and country of work at least once a week
You’ll need to complete the Public Health passenger locator form before you travel to the UK.
You will not need to self-isolate for 14 days if you are staying in England, Wales or Northern Ireland. You’ll need to self-isolate for 14 days if you are staying in Scotland.
You’ll need to show evidence that you reside in one country but work in the other and you should also be able to demonstrate that you travel between the two on a minimum of a weekly basis, for example, a season ticket.

The commuter rule for sure does not apply to pack a house.

We could self isolate at our house in Scotland as it has enough furniture etc as we need when we're there, we have clothes and my sis would shop for us. Getting there would be a problem though as I gather you're not permitted to travel on public transport and it's a bus then a train journey to Fife from Edinburgh. I don't know if car hire is allowed. However, it would be a problem for my OH if he had to self isolate again on returning to Switzerland because of his current work project
TBH does anyone in the UK Government actually know what they're doing because from where I'm sitting it's been a complete balls up from the start.

The most obvious proof is that there is a solution which the Austrian government have already implemented. A paid-for COVID test at the airport which allows you to skip quarantine if you’re all clear. Simple, effective, transparent and science-based.
Why hasn’t the British government explained why this is not an option, or even quarantine until you can produce a test certificate if waiting a couple of hours at Heathrow is too much trouble?

I too was thinking of heading home to UK for 1 week and quarantining with family. Trouble is that you then cannot leave after 7 days, if you follow the law then you must stay for the 14 days. So a 7 day visit is not an option, legally.
Seems that hardly anyone actually quarantines for 14 days, so the scientist nerds are suggesting to the government that the quarantine period should be reduced to 7 days. They know that 7 days is not as good as 14 days, but when you take into account the compliance rate then the 7 day option is predicted to give better overall results, i.e. better that 50% of the population quarantines for 7 days, rather than 10% of the population quarantines for 14 days.
If the government changes to this 7 day quarantine period, i am booking my flight!

I have arrived & departed the same day all perfectly legal.

I’ll see if I can get a link, I got this from my s-i-l’s husband. He called ‘somebody’ there to see if we could visit for just a few days.
It is logical that any restriction applicable to a visitor would apply equally to the visitees.
