Re-entering Zurich from London Heathrow

I live in Zurich and I am planning to fly to London Heathrow to see family in July for 3 weeks over summer. What is the protocol for re-entering back into Zürich?

So far; bring a passport and a residency permit.

Re: Re-entering Zurich from London Heathrow

I have read that insofar as you have a valid residency permit, you will be able to reenter Switzerland. That could change if things get worse in the UK and Switzerland changes their policy. The issue is your stay in UK as you will have to quarantine for 2 weeks or face a fine.

They say July 8th it goes back to normal. Nothing special needed, just your passport.

Re: Re-entering Zurich from London Heathrow

Your problem isn't going to be coming back to Switzerland, but arriving in the UK. You're supposed to go into quarantine (that means isolation) for 14 days.

If you have a permit, take it with you. You may not actually need it to reenter Switzerland. If you are Swiss your ID card will suffice. If your are not Swiss you will need your Passport or EU ID card.

So far they asked for my permit as well, EU passport was not sufficient.

Swiss State Secretariat for Migration SEM

From 8 June 2020
a further easing of restrictions will come into effect, which will primarily benefit the economy and facilitate recruitment in the jobs market. The processing of all applications made by workers from the EU/EFTA area will begin again. In addition, Swiss businesses will be able to employ highly skilled workers from third countries if this is in the public interest or if they are urgently needed.

From 8 June 2020
Family reunification will be possible again under the normal conditions and procedures for anyone holding a permanent residence, residence or short stay permit. The cantonal authorities will be able to consider applications from unmarried partners of Swiss citizens or of foreign nationals who hold a residence or permanent residence permit, along with requests to enter Switzerland in order to make administrative preparations for weddings or for registered partnership ceremonies (same-sex couples).

From 8 June 2020
The cantonal authorities will also begin processing applications for residence permits from persons taking education and training courses that last for more than 90 days.

From 8 June 2020
At the same time the obligation to give notice of job vacancies, which has been suspended, will be reintroduced so that job seekers already living in Switzerland gain a time advantage over applicants from abroad.

On 15 June 2020
it is planned to lift all travel restrictions and restore full free movement of persons with Germany, Austria and France. Switzerland is also planning to lift all current entry restrictions involving EU/EFTA states on 15 June. This will allow people to travel and reintroduce freedom of movement between all states within the Schengen area without restriction. Restrictions will also be lifted for citizens with rights of free movement from non-Schengen states, such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia and Cyprus.

By 6 July 2020
The Federal Council aims to lift all travel restrictions and restore full free movement of persons to and from all Schengen states by 6 July.

Sorry If I wasn’t clear. If you have a permit you need to take it with you regardless of your nationality. The permit alone isn’t enough you also need your passport or valid EU ID card.

If you are Swiss your ID or Passport is necessary.

This will be reviewed on 29 June and it’s likely to be withdrawn.

Re: Re-entering Zurich from London Heathrow

The problem is, UK is not in Schengen. They are currently making their own rules. Right now, if you enter UK you need to go into two weeks self-isolation. I would say 'wait and see' if that changes before deciding to travel in summer..

The problem is not getting back into Switzerland (that's quite easy right now if you are a citizen or resident) - it's what happens if you try to enter UK. Wiat and see...

Re: Re-entering Zurich from London Heathrow

Switzerland is opening its borders to residents from all Schengen countries plus the UK as from 15 June, so that includes Italy. Some countries are not reciprocating, for example Spain and UK, so you can't enter those countries, at least not without conditions.

I'm not sure that's quite right. From Doropfiz's post above, 15 June is the lifting of restrictions on France, Austria, and Germany.

Italy would fall under the July 6 category.

EDIT - See below, I was looking at outdated info.

Maybe it would be easier to go to the source of official information under the following link:

Re: Re-entering Zurich from London Heathrow

It is quiet confusing, the way Switzerland listed their neighboring countries to be open on 15th june except Italy, if am not mistaking, though Swiss mentioned all schenge countries among thier list but Italy is not yet quiet clear.
Does anyone have a concret idea about this particular topic?

Hi, did you read the link posted by ZuriRollt above? No, Italians are not yet welcome to come to Switzerland as tourists yet. However Italy opened its borders to the Swiss. Here's a quote from the page:

Quote:
Is the border with Italy and Austria now open again?

Italy lifted controls at its borders with neighbouring Schengen countries on 3 June. Switzerland informed Italy that it was still too early to lift Swiss controls at its borders with Italy on that date. The Federal Council plans to coordinate this step with Italy and countries neighbouring Italy over the coming weeks; if necessary, health checks may be introduced at the border. The border cantons, in particular Ticino, will be included in discussions.

... On 15 June Switzerland plans to lift all entry restrictions still in force at its borders with Austria, Germany and France in agreement with these countries...

Edit - See IM's more current info below.

Thanks. I guess the Swiss haven't managed to update all of their pages yet, no wonder it's so confusing!

The BAG site links to sem.admin.ch, which has the text I quoted above. Your link goes to the page for the Federal Council.

If I scroll down past all the FAQs on the sem.admin.ch page, then I find text that matches the Federal Council.

YAY! Open borders for all EU/EFTA is far less complicated than some restricted and some not. Let's hope this is not too much, too early.
